Chaka Khan - "Love of a Lifetime"

Underrated 1986 jam. She sang it live here too. Oh, and that booty!!!

Warner Brothers made a mistake when they decided to go with this as the first single. It was a cute Pop song, but I could hardly understand most of the lyrics. It was too Pop for black radio and the label didn't bother to promote it at Pop/Rock radio where it could have done well so that's why the song didn't perform well on either chart. It also was a very difficult song to sing live. I remember when she performed it on The Tonight Show and it just sounded really awkward. Anyway, I think it's a fun song, the music video for it was fantastic. I just think WB failed to do the song and the album any justice. Really "Destiny" shoud have built on the massive success of it's predecessor but the label, for whatever reasons, dropped the ball.

Yeah, I remember when it came out the local dance station was playing it. It never really got pop or r&b airplay as you said. I recall taping the music video from "Friday Night Videos" on NBC. Haha.

Why is a Chaka Khan thread about a non-Prince song being moved to Associated Artists & People"?

I agree.Never really liked this song.Like many songs from the mid-80s,it suffers from synthesizer overkill smile it's a loud, formulaic track. To be honest,I've never really liked Destiny as whole.

when I first saw the title I mistook it for a later 90s song:Love You All My Lifetime, that I absolutely loved. College NYC early 20s. Had forgotten about it until this thread

^^

"Love Of A Lifetime"...."Love You All My Lifetime".....

yeah,it's odd that she would have two songs with very similiar titles (and both songs were the first singles from those albums) smile

Not a fan of "Love of a Lifetime" but I adore "Love You All My Lifetime." The latter's follow up, "You Can Make the Story Right," is one of my favorite Chaka songs.
