Katy Perry & Popstars Like Her Have Trash Politics.

Katy Perry is trash, her music is trash, her voice is trash, her production is trash, her politics are trash. The irony that she made a stupid ass song talking about we're all ''sheep'' yet her dumbass useless pop music is kind of part of the problem her song sings about. Like pretty white girls like her who all of a sudden wanna get ''political'' and act like they have struggled so much in their life neutral
fuck off! this chick has gotten everything she fucking wants in life (same with Taylor Swift) so their feminist messages just seem forced and cheesy as fuck.

So white attractive women aren't allowed to have political opinions?

I feel there is a lot of misogny and sexism to your post.

Why can't an artist write fun pop songs and more serious songs. People can grown and change and evolve along the way.

I don't understand the hate against Katy.

Look at someone like Lady Gaga. She is white and attractive and gives her opinions and has done fun dance songs, but Born This Way was praised and she is always feted as a great artist.

IMO it's because Katy and Taylor seem so manufactured - their look follows a pattern, their songs follow a pattern, their answers to questions in interviews follow a pattern, even their love lives follow a pattern. This makes them dull and predictable, even when Katy dons blue hair or whatever. To me, they are classic bubblegum pop and therefore I find it hard to take their political opinions seriously. This is not to say that white attractive women can't have political opinions, more that the arena that their genre sits in is an arena that doesn't necessarily sit well with having political influence on the wider world as might a punk band etc... Gaga IMO is still manufactured (I hate some of what she does) but seems much more acknowledged for her individuality, which makes her stand out as having her own mind. Going ahead with the Tony Bennett album was ballsy because it could have had a negative impact on her career (some might argue it has) yet it shows she has her own mind to some extent.

Personally I agree with the OP, I think we need some anarchy in music right now, and the current political climate worldwide should be the perfect platform to see some ballsy, rebelious, against the bubblegum pop grain stuff coming out. I honestly think music is ready for some real, thought-provoking, talented, anti-manufactured bands right now.

I agree with everything said in this post.

She said this era is Purposeful or some shit like that lol

It amazes me how her fans actually believe that Chained to the Rythm is a protest song lol. They even justify the song's mediocre chart performance by saying "Oh queen Katy doesn't care about charts and she only cares about her message". Her supporting Clinton was obviously just for publicity, now she seems to jump on the bandwagon like everyone else, but in a cheesy fashion which makes it even worse.

maple broke it down.

Katy's demographics have nothing to do with why her so called radicaliam is perceived as a joke. The fact that she is known for making shallow bubblegum pop music and has made a shallow bubblegum pop song in "protest" of the shallow, LCD-pandering system that her shallow one-dimensional music is a part of is laughable.

Did you watch the video? The guy im it explains the situation really well.

No it's not about sexism at all lol Katy & Taylor come from well off families and are two pretty girls with average voices. Their looks and 'm sure middle class status helped them to get up in their music career. Hell Katy used her gospel shit to get the foot in the door and that worked as well.

They are so far removed from the political world that i find their politics very fake and uncaring. And the fact Katy has the balls to make a song about how people are all sheep and only dance to a song for the ''beat'' UMMMMMMM DO YOU KNOW YOU'RE KATY PERRY? the queen of fluff over substance? i just find everything pop stars like her say so fucking fake. Do you think people like Katy Perry & Taylor Swift are crying over the war in Syria? or the current political climate? i highly doubt it.

After Rise was a flop she was quick as fuck to make a comeback song. I can believe GaGa not caring about the charts nowadays cause of her musical style change. But KP is much like Britney... in the fact she's manufactured and can't sing or produce her shit. So she needs the charts to stay on the up and up.

And i'm not a total asshat i actually have a gulity pleasure the Teenage Dream song. lol

It'd be a shame if her career ends now, she has a few great cuts on every album: Birthday, Walking on Air and Dark Horse are much better than that indie rock shit that gets played even though no one is asking for it.

Adorecream

I love Buckley's videos, I have subscribed to him since 2012, his worst songs of 201? videos are incredible. Really hates shit hop and hipster garbage along with processed banal pop music.

.

Katy Perry is artist, I do not not even notice, any "trend" music made after 1996 has NO interest to me. She sings highly processed and slutty pop songs. She is in her mid 30s yet carrying on like she is 17, unlike most other American crap, she has not caught on much in New Zealand.

.

She is in the same league as people like Taylor Swift, Rhianna, Beyonce, Kesha, Gaga, Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Sia, Selena Gomez, Cher Lloyd and super had Britney. Music for 12 year old girls with an IQ of 77.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I'm not a huge fan of Katy Perry, but she doesn't really bother me.She's harmless smile She's not as overexposed/overhyped as Beyonce, and she's not pretentious like Lady Gaga. She does 'safe' pop music and that's OK.To me,she's the female equivalent of Justin Timberlake.

CoolMF

Can't believe that I'm about to post a defense of Katy Perry and Taylor Swift but here goes...as the father of a "tween" girl, I've come to appreciate Katy Perry and Taylor Swift songs when they come on the radio. Why? Because their songs (NOT VIDEOS OR CONCERTS) are always full of 1.) strong and confident femininity and 2.) self confidence. In other words, I prefer their lyrical content for my daughter over the misogyny and worst-stereotypes-of-Black-people that tend to populate the radio these days.

There...I said it. Now back to the merits of their politics...

It's freedom of speech and they can say what they want. Should John Lennon have shut up and not be political during the NIXON criminal days, a man who extended a war so he could get votes? to me that is straight up murder and had Nixon been alive today he should have been thrown in Jail or gotten the death penalty like those he sent to die.

So we can bitch about celebs talking and thats cool, but just like we get our platforms on social media and shit like that, people getting voices and can hide behind a screen, at least they are doing it and owning it and walking the talk, no one on Facebook or social media that rants and goes off on someone would have the balls to do it to someones face.

The problem is hypocrisy. There's nothing wrong with pop stars addressing real issues in their music or outside of it but you can't speak out against a problem that you're actively a part of. Katy is the poster girl for shallow, paint-by-number pop music yet she makes a shallow paint-by-number pop song supposedly against shallow paint-by-number pop music? Makes less than zero sense. This is made worse when she dubs the song "Purposeful Pop", which is confirmation that she was trying to make a statement.

What Katy did is the equivalent of someone advocating for veganism as they eat a sirloin steak.
