Description

SoulMusic Records is proud to present expanded editions of RESTLESS and SENSATIONAL, two best-selling ‘80s albums by popular US R&B band Starpoint as a 2-CD set with nine bonus tracks.

Starpoint began as a Maryland-based family group consisting of brothers George, Ernesto, Orlando and Gregory Phillips with the early addition of Kayode ‘Ky’ Adeyemo and in the late ‘70s, female vocalist Renee Diggs.

The group secured their first recording contract in 1980 with Chocolate City Records, moving to Casablanca and then Boardwalk, establishing a presence on the US R&B charts before signing with Elektra Records in 1984. The group’s first LP for the label “It’s All Yours” set them on a path to consistent status that lasted for almost six years. RESTLESS, Starpoint’s sophomore 1985 Elektra set was co-produced by manager Lionel Job and then-emerging hit producer Keith Diamond and boasted (3) Top 10 R&B/dance hits including the now-classic ‘Object Of My Desire’ (their biggest US pop charted single), the LP’s infectious title track and ‘What You Been Missin’.’

With energetic live performances, Starpoint toured with Morris Day, Luther Vandross and Atlantic Starr and others, building a solid audience: their third Elektra album, SENSATIONAL (produced by renowned music man/songwriter Preston Glass and Job) continued the momentum with ‘He Wants My Body’ and ‘D.Y.B.O’; Diggs’ diagnosis with multiple sclerosis sadly impacted continued touring and in 1990, Starpoint disbanded. This reissue includes stellar notes by renowned UK writer Charles Waring with quotes from Orlando Phillips, Lionel Job and Preston Glass and great remastering by Donald Cleveland.

Tracklist

Description
SoulMusic Records is very proud to present “Love Changes – The Anthology, 1972-83,” a first-of-its-kind 2-CD set by Mother’s Finest, considered the premier black rock-and-soul band of the ‘70s and ‘80s. This 37-track collection includes the entire 10-track 1983 LP, “One Mother To Another,” only ever released in Europe and making its worldwide CD debut. In addition, six tracks that were recorded for the group’s first RCA LP (in 1972) and only issued on a now out-of-print US CD in 2010 are also included here along with the team’s four charted singles, recorded for Epic Records during their seven-year tenure with the label, other standouts such as ‘Somebody To Love,’ (produced by Jimmy Iovine) along with ‘U Turn Me On’ and ‘Evolution’ from the 1981 LP, “Iron Age” and key cuts from the group’s three Epic studio albums such as ‘Give You All The Love (Inside Of Me)’ and a cover of the Motown classic, ‘Mickey’s Monkey.’

Formed in 1970 originally by vocalists Glenn Murdock and Joyce Kennedy, the band expanded with a nucleus that included guitarist Gary ‘Mo’ Moore and bassist Jerry ‘Wyzard’ Seay.

The group began achieving chart success in 1976 with ‘Dontcha Wanna Love Me,’ scoring their biggest US pop hit with ‘Baby Love’ and following it with the now-soul classic R&B chartmaker, ‘Love Changes’ (written and produced by Skip Scarborough) in 1978.

Extensive liner notes by renowned US writer A. Scott Galloway including quotes from original members of the group including Glenn, Joyce, Gary and Jerry; and excellent mastering by Nick Robbins.

I know very little about Mother Finest's music,so I'm definitely gonna get that Anthology set.For years,I've been wanting to explore their catalog and that set is a good place to start.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

What's up with all of these compilations? Do we really need ANOTHER Teena Marie compilation? And ANOTHER Norman Connors compiation? eek Still a lot of titles that have yet to be reissued on CD and even more that have never been releassed in expanded form. FTG hasn't announced any new titles in months. BBR and Soulmusic.com are releasing a lot of compilations now. So I guess the labels aren't cooperating as far as licensing their R&B back catalogs for reissue?

I really wish one of these labels would reissue the 1987 Madame X debut album.
