There is nothing funky about the 1999 album, other than the groove from Lady Cab Driver. Hell, might as well call Purple Rain LP a funk album too, lol.

Oh, c'mon. "Billy Jack Bitch" is just updated Parliament. "Endorphinmachine" and "319" are 90s funk rock at their best. "Pussy Control" might be Prince doing comedy hiphop to most ears, but he's really relying on his funk chops all the way through it.

Sure, the record contains very little "obvious funk", but Prince was often like that due to his own choice. You know, it would have been very easy to turn "319" into a pure funk track just by replacing the distorted guitar sound by a clean guitar sound.

but...

he didn't..

and imho the 'FUNK' on The Gold Experience-

is rather weak.. and Mediocre compared to MANY other "FUNK" Artists.

I really don't think Sly is a very good example of an artist that's identifiable as "mainly a funk artist".

Just for starters:
https://en.wikipedia.org/...mily_Stone

"Sly and the Family Stone was an American band from San Francisco. Active from 1966 to 1983, the band was pivotal in the development of funk, soul, rock, and psychedelic music."

If you're going to attempt to discredit Prince's status as "a funk artist" due to him having done different styles of music then at least use an artist that's not well-known for having done different types of music as well as your counterexample.

That was my point and not that Sly Stone "wasn't a funk artist" or that he "wasn't an important funk artist".
