While all is true, she was geared this way from day one to be that "star". Mariah singing background for Brenda K Starr is not a struggle and that was not long at all. I also feel alot of the struggle we were told about was fabricated similar to a Vanilla Ice ironically from that same time frame. The thing with MARIAH is nothing works that she does. I mean she has a reality show and that to me is a kiss of death but others like Toni Braxton have made that actually work, and TOni has a made alot doing tours etc.. and vegas because she can pull off the live shows, and YES Toni's show are very sexy image wise, wardrobe wise but she backs it up, Mariah to me seems uncomfortable even in sexy outfits? SO I dont get her she says that early image was not her and yet she seems to almost look forced to be sexy? Intersting how one can pull it off and one just can not.

She reminded me of Chaka when she appeared to not know the words to "Emotions". But at least Chaka makes up some lyrics when she forgets them. Someone screwed up big time with this. How can the vocals get dropped from a pre recorded song unless someone sabatoged her. She really needs to do something about her vocal issues. I would hate to see her end up like Nippy during the last 10 years of her career.

At least with Chaka she will come back because she sings live vocals. I've never heard of nor seen her every lipsynch. And the last time I saw her perform a couple of years ago her vocal chords were great!

Very all true and you have given me some things to consider. You make a really good point here and this might explain her lazy "diva" persona. The last couple of minutes in the OP performance was not only a joke but borderline disrespectful to the audience. She did not care at all that people paid money to watch her and had an attitude like fuq it if you enjoyed it you enjoyed it and if you didn't you didn't I know this is off topic and I hate to bring her up but I kinda felt this way about Janet too with some of her career decisions. Janet's priveledge background hurt her. I think artists and entertainers who had to really struggle to break through by touring small venues, night clubs, etc they really have a strong work ethic when they really make it and they can handle career adversity more better.

Toni Braxton can pull off being sexy because she IS sexy. She has natural sex appeal. Even when she debut and she wore her sweaters and jeans she was always sexy and I would argue that has always been apart of her brand. Mariahdoesn't have natural sex appeal She was always the girl next door that was cute and wore long gowns and could sang her ass off, that was Mariah! That is why when she tries to be sexy it always comes off as forced and a try hard and your right she seems uncomfortable with "trying to be sexy" and almost forced which is why I have always felt she has very severe self esteem issues.

Now if Mariah wants to dress like that, more power to her! However, she does not look comfortable or exudes confidence when she dresses sexy.

She exuded more confidence when she dressed like this and I don't see anything wrong with the "girl next door look" you can still be appealing and attractive as a woman without "trying to always be sexy"

Good grief! Mariah is proceeding to self-sabotage her career. Use a live band next time. She looked like a bumbling fool up there.

Oh my, that was beyond terrible! Mariah is beautiful and can sing, but doesn't need to be doing all that and dressing half naked! She claimed it was issues with the earpiece, but still.

That was awful, such a shame for her i wouldn't like to be her right now.

She can't sing anymore. All performances have been either mimed or terrible since at least 2002. All her employees are too scared to tell her negative things about her voice or wardrobe (according to her ex Nick Cannon). She wants her last fiance to pay her $50 million for her time in that engagement. The rumors are that she has lost much of her 500 million dollar fortune. Sad, people will defend anybody these days.

Mariah's Lip-sync to Auld Lang Syne was good but something went wrong with the 2nd track....What I want to know is if Mariah was expecting to lip-sync to her own vocals or did she plan to sing the 2nd song Live? She could not hear anything from the earpiece...Mariah has been lip-syncing for years but that was the first BAD lip-sync performance she ever gave...She normally does a Great job on any stage...

I'm gonna cut her some slack becuz I don't know what she was expecting when she lost sound in her earpiece.....BUT....she's an Icon and Mariah has sang acapella all her Life, even if she lost the sound in her earpiece she should have kept singing the song even if she could not hear the track...Maybe I'm demanding too much by saying that....Not keeping up with the Track would have sounded weird but at least she would have shown that she can sing LIVE instead of giving-up...Mariah gave-up and she's too Seasoned to give up like that...

Keep in mind folks, if she could not hear the track being played she was basically a Deer in headlights, but she still should have kept singing the lyrics to the song...Mariah and MANY Artists can learn from this...

The fact is that New Years Rockin Eve is not a professional show where there are techs all around. I can give her all of that, and when you cannot hear what is going on you are screwed. As i told on this forum the story of a-ha doing "Take On Me" at the LIVE 8 show, the lead singer basically had sounds of another band warming in his monitor. the other members of a-ha had no clue he could not hear, but basically he just ripped out the plugs in his ears and went with it. That is a huge issue with this is that Mariah has no band and almost never sings a straight live vocal anymore it is all pre-recorded. SO her saying "who me soundcheck" was like, even people without a band need to sound check and she honestly probably was late rushed herself up there once the show is running there is no soundcheck I mean other artists had already been playing for 2 hours up there. I don't think she planned on singing live because you can hear her dog note whistles while she is talking about things, so those must have been on another track, just a total washout.
