Musical freedom in the 2010s

I think musical freedom has never been so acknowledged and prosperously felt by artists.

Now you can literally self-release an album or even an EP full with incoherent themes, hazy sounds and over-the-top abstract arrangements and still make sense to a considerable number of fans.

Sometimes artists tend to create something that is meaningful to them and meaningless to the listener. They're actually using music as a medium to express whatever that goes on in their mind without giving not one single fuck about standards of music...

Back in the day you had all kinds of experimental musicians who did what they like and yet were criticized, because their albums weren't conceptualized enough to be labeled as avant-garde or lo-fi or whatever.

Is that a good thing? That music journalists are now more open than ever to appreciate the weirdness of all types of records and therefore support them in terms of publicity and buzz.

Once upon a time you couldn't 'Dabble' with being a recording artist..

If You didnt have the Money $$$ to go to a studio to get a demo together

Followed by the 'Skill' to attract an A&R rep from a Label..

You were stuck dreaming about stardom fame and fortune in your bedroom!

Where You were limited to recording home demo's - usually on 4 track cassette recorders..

(Far from Radio Friendly PRO HIFI sound)..

Basically you weren't in the REAL WORLD of having your music distributed and promoted worldwide (like you can easily do today on youtube)

unless you had 'the Goods'.. - TALENT.

Onstage and in the Studio! and you better have 'Star Quality' too!

or maybe if you Looked like the sexiest thing on two legs the label wouldn't mind paying a top producer to come up with a few catchy fast-food 'Hits' for you. Britney Spears, Vanity ect..

Today every fool that has a computer thinks he/she can be a

graphic designer, a critic..a trained recording engineer.. a music producer.. ect..

PEOPLE ARE DELUSIONAL!

The Quantized Cut and Pasted and edited to death 'Music' / CRAP that people with no real rhythm

ie: couldn't Jam in a room with real musicians if their lives depended on it.

Are churning out by the minute online cant even DREAM of being on the same quality level as older stuff.. (Pre digital)

Go listen to Michael Jackson's - Off the Wall and tell me (1) Dance/Party record made since the 2000's that has better Songs.. Production, and Musicianship.
