I was tryin' not to go there but since you did... nod She has never had much of a white male following and I get the feeling that's what the committee mostly consists of. Gladys Knight has never had much of a white male following but she and the Pips are in. Probably because of their affiliation with Motown. If it wasn't for that, she wouldn't have been inducted.

Chaka Khan not already being in there is a travesty. Being passed over yet again an abomination that discredits the entire enterprise. She is only rivaled by Aretha and her influence was HUGE. She must have rubbed some the wrong way or something. Sickens me.

Had Chaka rubbed someone the wrong way she would be in the same boat with Jon Bon Jovi..Bon Jovi will never get a 1st glance by the current Rock Board Elite becuz of something he said about one of them....Chaka was her typical graceful self when she was originally thrown in the pot...

Keep in mind the majority of the Board members are from Ohio..Most of them are Corporate Executives from Banks and different companies...We're letting a bunch of Business Execs from OHIO tell us who should be inducted into the Hall...

Bingo disbelief its all about $$$$ and music politics "Why the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Snubs R&B Legends Like Janet Jackson http://www.thedailybeast....ckson.html

She did. It's called "Destiny" biggrin . But, yeah, you are right, she did promise another one quite a while ago. Just another of a long list of promises she hasn't delivered on.

There are tons that took forever to get in had tons more hits and influence. SO again we got to have patience or just let it go and say who cares. As I said at some point they will get in. The 90's had very little to offer that is going to get in or get looked at, and that is just the truth. You arent going to see Nickelback and CREED getting looked or debated on. Pretty much once the Foo Fighters and Dave Matthews get in then you will see tons go in that long were in the waiting because they are not going to Debate Celine Dion and the Boy Bands and Xtina about getting in.

Interesting selections, but weird that if you are going to do hip hop that LL Cool J, who is a pioneer (same era as Run DMC and Beastie Boys) has been passed over. Despite his more recent output being sub par, his 80s and 90s stuff is pretty solid.

nod LL Cool J should have gotten in before NWA and Tupac (I love all three by the way).

Janet is being black balled by the industry. There is an agenda to have her legacy erased (this has always been the plan since the whole Super Bowl nipple gate fiasco). Its interesting how white people give all their accolades and gold to the "token black girl" but then in the same breath they turn back around AND discriminate with (sexism and racism) against Janet Jackson. JANET's discrimination and exclusion from the music industry is rooted in RACISM and SEXISM and because she is JACKSON. I firmly believe that. They do the same crap to Michael so I know its all of the above. Unfornately, Janet has it worse because she is a woman, she is black and the industry looks down on her. Its so unfair! Janet is an icon and legend in her own right!

yeahthat Happy for Tupac and ELO but dang no Chic, Chaka or Janet shrug

It took over 30 years for Joan Baez to get in, so the racist accusations are racebaiting bullshit.

And that has absolutely nothing to do with the many deserving artists who have been snubbed by the RHOF for years and even decades, most of whom are white.

But sure ... anytime anything doesn't go your way, blame it on racism. Makes perfect sense. whofarted

Its rather ridiculous that Janet was not inducted on her first year of eligbility but she of course is being black balled because of the Super Bowl incident. Those who are old enough remember that LL was very much a mainstream crossover star, breaking through with his Bigger and Deffer album. Since then not only has he hosted several awards shows, he's done television shows too such as NCIS LA. It is absolutely ridiculous to say he doesn't have a huge white following.

Not really surprised she didnt get in first go round. Tons of artists don't get in right away. It took QUEEN 3 times and 5 years to get in and to me they should have been a shoe in. Bon Jovi should have been in first ballot, regardless of what people might think of him as a writer or them as a band HE owned that era, and to me they should have been in before GNRoses because GNR were rebelling against bands like Jovi and Motley Crue, as were Nirvana. I do agree that someone like LL should be in and way before NWA and Tupac. But it can also be noted that Bon Jovi is very hated by writers you are talking about a band that has sold over 140 million worldwide and more than half of it is overseas, now for a band from Jersey that is a bit strange. Biggest touring band ever. So for me they were a no brainer, but again if the writers and critics hate you they will make u wait for it.

I agree with much of what you said, but there's more to the voting process than just whether or not the artists are liked or hated. For starters, they like to have a diverse induction ceremony. That means they don't want just male rock bands or whatever, they try to make sure each induction includes female inductees and R&B/Rap inductees. They also take into consideration who is still alive and willing/able to perform. It's a 5-hour induction (I've been to one, I know) that gets edited for television, so it's important to have live performances that will appeal to fans of many genres.

I think everyone is aware that non everyone will get in - we are not talking about Jody Watley or Belinda Carlisle here we are talking about Janet bloody Jackson arguably one of the most influential and successful female artists of the last 30 years - it should be a no brainer to induct her.

I guarantee that if Madonna was in this position you wouldn't have such a nonchalant attitude and would be (rightfully) outraged!

Regarding Whitney, it's surprising and then not surprising. It's surprising because she is so legendary. Her body of work is outstanding. She sang in a lot of different styles--gospel, R&B, rock, and pop. Among female artists, her voice is unmatched.

--

On the other hand, it's not surprising because, as far as I know, she didn't play instruments and wasn't much of a songwriter.

--

Overall, based on her incredible voice and her body of work, I think that she is absolutely deserving of a place in the R&RHOF. She was a pioneer for female recording artists. She, Janet, and Madonna broke down a lot of barriers.
