2017 Rock Hall Inductees

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its list of 2017 inductees in the Performers category.

Next year's Rock Hall honorees in the Performers category are Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, Journey, Pearl Jam, Joan Baez and Tupac Shakur.

Yes, ELO, Journey and Baez all have waited a long time for the honor, as Yes and ELO have been eligible for more than 20 years, Journey first was eligible in 2000 and Baez has been eligible since the Rock Hall was founded. In contrast, Pearl Jam and Tupac both were chosen for induction in their first year of eligibility.

Chic guitarist and acclaimed producer and songwriter Nile Rodgers will be inducted into the Rock Hall in conjunction with receiving the Award for Musical Excellence. It's worth noting that Chic has been nominated in the "Performers" category 11 times, including this year, but has yet to be inducted.

In commemoration of the Rock Hall's Class of 2017 honorees, a new exhibit saluting the inductees will open at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland on March 30.

Artists become eligible for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album or single.

Interesting selections, but weird that if you are going to do hip hop that LL Cool J, who is a pioneer (same era as Run DMC and Beastie Boys) has been passed over. Despite his more recent output being sub par, his 80s and 90s stuff is pretty solid.

nod LL Cool J should have gotten in before NWA and Tupac (I love all three by the way).

That's what I'm saying. I like all 3 too, but LL is a hip hop legend and his 80's stuff in particular is classic. Tupac is classic too (I liked his pre Death Row stuff) and NWA fell off after Cube left, but longevity is on LL's side and although he is a legacy act (in hip hop), you have to give the man props.

Can anyone explain why Janet Jackson, who influenced largely the same artists Madonna influenced, is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

It is one of those things that make you go "hmmmm".

She has a strong discography, cultural influence, and meets the minimum requirements for the RRHOF, so hard to figure why the exclusion.

Nile Rodgers, frontman of 11-time nominees Chic, will also receive an Award for Musical Excellence at the 32nd annual Rock Hall induction ceremony, taking place April 7 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. SiriusXM will broadcast the ceremony live and it will again be filmed for a later telecast on HBO

We have to realize that not every artist or band that you like is gonna be inducted.I can name numerous other people who I think should be in the rock and roll hall of fame, but I gotta accept reality.

Sad but true, I wish Teena Marie had been given the honor as well. I wonder what ever happened with the movement to get her star on the Hollywood walk of fame. If I remember correctly she could have received it postumously 5 years after her death.

rolleyes rolleyes

I think everyone is aware that non everyone will get in - we are not talking about Jody Watley or Belinda Carlisle here we are talking about Janet bloody Jackson arguably one of the most influential and successful female artists of the last 30 years - it should be a no brainer to induct her.

I guarantee that if Madonna was in this position you wouldn't have such a nonchalant attitude and would be (rightfully) outraged!

I get that you're a Janet stan and you're understandably pissed but is it really that important? Some of my other favorite artists aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but I'm not gonna have a heart attack about it.I personally think that Chic and Chaka Khan should be inducted, but it is what it is.Janet just had a baby girl....I doubt that she even cares about this.

Janet is being black balled by the industry. There is an agenda to have her legacy erased (this has always been the plan since the whole Super Bowl nipple gate fiasco). Its interesting how white people give all their accolades and gold to the "token black girl" but then in the same breath they turn back around AND discriminate with (sexism and racism) against Janet Jackson. JANET's discrimination and exclusion from the music industry is rooted in RACISM and SEXISM and because she is JACKSON. I firmly believe that. They do the same crap to Michael so I know its all of the above. Unfornately, Janet has it worse because she is a woman, she is black and the industry looks down on her. Its so unfair! Janet is an icon and legend in her own right!

I'm glad like me you don't have heart attacks over people not getting inducted because that would be rather silly. Don't you agree?

I was merely replying to your post - am I allowed to do that? Is it okay with you that I express my disspointment without being perceived as irrational?

Chaka Khan not already being in there is a travesty. Being passed over yet again an abomination that discredits the entire enterprise. She is only rivaled by Aretha and her influence was HUGE. She must have rubbed some the wrong way or something. Sickens me.

I don't think it's a matter of artists/bands that I like. It's a matter of Janet Jackson influencing mostly the same artists Madonna influenced and influence was a significant basis for putting Madonna into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I still say when she was on CNN after Nippy died and called the music industry demonic, she didn't do herself any favors. That interview alone will probably keep her out.

Janet Jackson will get in so will Chaka and Chic and LL along with others like Bon Jovi Depeche Mode and maybe even Duran Duran. Basically the Hall is really at the end of the line here, now that Pearl Jam is in you are getting deeper into the 90's and what's left the Foo Fighters and Dave Matthews maybe, do u really think The boy band era and pop tarts are getting in the Hall? Why do think that bands that were always HATED like Journey and Styx and Yes are getting in or at least talked about getting in? So trust me there is enough noise to get Janet in just like there was To get Kiss in.

Had Chaka rubbed someone the wrong way she would be in the same boat with Jon Bon Jovi..Bon Jovi will never get a 1st glance by the current Rock Board Elite becuz of something he said about one of them....Chaka was her typical graceful self when she was originally thrown in the pot...

Keep in mind the majority of the Board members are from Ohio..Most of them are Corporate Executives from Banks and different companies...We're letting a bunch of Business Execs from OHIO tell us who should be inducted into the Hall...
