I hate to admit it but I'm slowly warming up to him and might get his album.

He's made a short film as well with several tracks, and cleverly used new wave samples too.

Great directing.

The artworks this era look like Tarantino posters he threw in the trash once he found better Kill Bill posters

Nevertheless, I like the this album has a story. Will definitely review it once it's released.

Yeah it's the same director as the Starboy video which was also impressive. I like how the minimalism was still edgy

i dont like "Starboy" the song. he could have came out with something better. Lazy chorus (thats all ya came up with bruh?) Giving him chances though since I know he can knock out hits.

I feel he was going for the old school approach with minimal words and letting the music speak, and it worked beautifully, especially with how the percussion builds up. I'm sure a lot of great songs most of us here like have very simple choruses and are still remembered decades later.

The only song I like by him is "Earn It". I put him in the same category as Miguel ,Frank Ocean and all these other mediocre new wave singers. There is nothing unique about them and they are carbon copies of each other. They come out with the same bland music.

The crazy one is you, with stanning for mediocirty and degrading music but trashing quality music. Your cred has been shot a long time ago. I knew that stanning you did in that other Bruno thread was fake.

Im crazy because I don't like The Weeknd, Miguel and Frank Ocean? GROW UP and seek help and Bruno Mars has nothing to do with this thread and the only reason why you brought him up is because you have this irrational hate towards him and because I like him. I can see right through your crazy pressed FAKE bullshit.

eek

What kind of melt down??

You are very sick. YOU are the one that responded to me in the FIRST place. I didn't say anything to you. If you don't even like me or my opinions...... why the hell are you even messaging my posts?!?!?! You ALWAYS want to pick fights with me and indirectly trash Bruno because you know I like him and you hate him! You just went out of your way IN THIS THREAD to bring up Bruno JUST to trash him? Are you Krazy? Then got the nerve to say you like his music? whofarted Please don't respond to me ever again. Please don't respond to me ever again! I don't like you, you don't like me, GREAT. Now stay out my way and leave me the hell alone.

Let's stop arguing and talk about the music!

I think it's a pretty decent album, a lot of the songs are similar but I think it's pretty good. I really enjoyed "Rockin'".

It is a decent album, but I wish at some point that he pivots to more substantial topics. I don't know if I'm too prudish but I can't get with the hollowness of these lyrics. It's like I'm drawn by the music but turned off by the lyrics of some of these songs.

That being said, my favorites are A Lonely Night, True Colors, Die For You and the 2 songs produced by Daft punk.

Decent is the word. Couple of stellar tracks (False Alarm, Starboy, I Feel It Coming, Sidewalks) but very safe. Not on the level of 'House of Balloons' or 'Beauty Behind The Madness' or his cover of 'Dirty Diana' (after which I started followng him) but a nice enough addition tho his discography.

Can't wait to see him live in Antwerp in March.

It's hard to enjoy someone if you keep placing high expectations on them and it's better to just accept what artists today mean or don't mean to you

I agree he has no filter, but that's part of his act and I love his music, songwriting, energy onstage, and I saw him for a full hour at Jingle Ball! He sounded really good and like he's in a better place in life than before. It's also really meaningful seeing someone from your city make it this huge.

I hope daft punk does his full album next time, they definitely aced the school of Nile Rodgers in my book and gave weeknd good grooves here

Yeah, too samey and not very strong hooks in overall.

"Starboy", "False Alarm" and a few other tracks attempt something a bit different from the previous release, but listening through the album just makes me wonder how many "MJ-style vocals over gangsta stuff" tracks does he really need in his discography. "Beauty Behind Madness" simply had better melodies and more feeling to it, which is why I kept playing it repeatedly when it came out. I can't say I'm getting that much out of the "singing over basic hiphop flow" stuff anymore.

I'll still need to give it a few more listens, though.

I should add that by "samey" I am not saying that there isn't stylistic diversity. It just easily gets reduced to background music while it's on. Not enough "hills and valleys", as so to speak.

I understand. Giving him a chance again because the other couple singles he came out with here nice. This is just too safe for me and has a lazy chorus like Rihanna "Work". "imma imma star boy"...uh okay... the verses are alright. Just nothing thought provoking. The video is nice though.

The chorus lyrics on the album version are:

"Look what you've done
I'm a motherfucking starboy"

At first I thought the chorus was lazy too, but I like the idea that he's sort of telling the listeners that they've foolishly made him a star, as someone with as questionable lyrics and habits as his are really shouldn't be as famous as he currently is.

There's another song on the album, "Reminder", which has him lamenting that he didn't exactly want to win "Teen choice awards" and so on.

All great points. There's something so tongue in cheek and sarcastic about starboy that makes it all the more endearing and the video is so spot on smile
