Does The Top 40 Even Play All The Top 40 Hits?

I feel like only like 10 songs get played all day on a radio station. Like there was a time when they played the same songs per hour... but they played the rest of thetop 40 too. Like literallty i hear the same top 10 songs like every hour upon multiple times an hour. And hear like maybe that Colplay/Beyonce song and another low top 40 song sink in.

This isn't a comment on the quality of the songs (the chainsmokers and Maroon 5 are cancer) but like why does thetop 40 even exist anymore? lol seems it's only the top 10 that matters and gets played nowadays. Ten years ago i would hear a song charted at like #72 on the radio a couple times a day. Now you can't even hear the rest ofthe top 20 in a day eek you're basically listening to 10 songs every day and that's fucking lame.

I agree.

Listening to "Top 40" is a mind-numbing experience.

You hear the same 10 songs over & over & over again.

The other thing that has changed dramatically about the Billboard Top 40, especially during the last five years or so, is the fact that they changed their methodology to include streaming on YouTube, Spotify, and other services, and how most of the data is obviously geared towards downloads, since it is darn near impossible to actually buy any physical singles these days. As a result, you get certain artists (Justin Bieber, Drake, Taylor Swift, etc.) who not only get their main newly released hot single quickly in the top 10, but other singles simultaneously hitting the top 40 thansk to streaming. Yet many of those other singles don't even get played on Top 40 radio because they would oversaturate the daily playlists towards just a few artists, not to mention some of those singles are not radio friendly.

It's god awful. The same handful of songs over and over ad naseaum. Where I live MTV plays music videos at like 4:00 in the AM and it's a similar thing. Same half dozen videos every freakin hour. The CIA should use top 40 radio and/or mTV music video programming as a torture tactic.

It's a jacked up situation. This current system really only serves to keep the top names on top.
