The list of 2017 nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has arrived.

Pearl Jam and Tupac Shakur have been nominated in their first year of eligibility (because their first recordings were released in 1991).

Depeche Mode, Bad Brains, Jane’s Addiction, Electric Light Orchestra, and Joan Baez were also nominated this year for the first time. Previous nominees Kraftwerk, Janet Jackson, Chic, Chaka Khan, MC5, and the Cars were nominated once again this year.

Nine Inch Nails and the Smiths, who were nominated for the last two years in a row, were not nominated this year. This year marks the 11th time Chic have been nominated.

Find all the nominees below:

Bad Brains
The Cars
Chaka Khan
Chic
Depeche Mode
Electric Light Orchestra
J. Geils Band
Jane’s Addiction
Janet Jackson
Joan Baez
Joe Tex
Journey
Kraftwerk
MC5
Pearl Jam
Steppenwolf
Tupac Shakur
Yes
The Zombies

Well, I'm not going to get my boxers all in a bunch like I did last year with all of the online voting. They are going to induct who they want to induct no matter what the online voters say. If Chaka gets in this year, fine. If she doesn't I'm cool with that. She says the induction seems to be more important to her fans than it is to her. biggrin

I think Joe Tex gets in this year. He's the only nominee from the early R&R era on the ballot.

It's how many votes one gets.

It is such a shame that Chaka Khan and Chic is still not in. Why nominate artists if they know they are not going to induct them in? It gets disrespectful after a certain point especially after nominating an artist over 10 times! How can they nominate an artist over 10 times but not induct them in? Crazy....this is why RRHF is a joke and every year we have these same ol tired discussions and debates over it. Its funny they are trying to include "fan votes" but they are ultimately going to still decide regardless of what a fan vote says. RRHF is a joke, end thread. My personal predictions: RRHF in true fashion will continue to snub Chic, Chaka and Janet. Tupac will more than likely get inducted since he was nominated on his first year of eligbility (and he deserves it). RRHF will induct any other white rock band, BOOM that is this years inductions in a nut shell.

About Chaka, she would have a better shot if it was Rufus. She was more successful as part of Rufus than solo.

Ok so I'll predict that Tupac will get in along with Janet Jackson, Chic and possibly Chaka Khan.

However, I believe that Pearl Jam SHOULD make it in. They have some stone cold classics to their name and are still going strong. They should take Tupac's place and the other 3 acts I mentioned should join them.

My "shot in the dark" guesses on the field --

Bad Brains
The Cars
Chaka Khan
Chic
Depeche Mode
Electric Light Orchestra
J. Geils Band
Jane’s Addiction
Janet Jackson
Joan Baez
Joe Tex
Journey
Kraftwerk
MC5
Pearl Jam
Steppenwolf
Tupac Shakur
Yes
The Zombies

It's a shame that neither Chaka nor Janet are in, but I don't think both will get in this year.

Keep an eye on MC5.

I don't think that Chic, Tupac and Janet will get in the same year. wink Rooting for Janet though. I think that Joan Baez aand Kraftwerk have good chances.

I don't think they or nominate or induct based on success. Who the hell is Bad Brains? confuse

Chaka has been a solo artist way longer than she was with Rufus. But, I think Chaka might have a better shot with Rufus simply because I think the committee would be more willing to induct her with a bunch of dudes. Tina Turner was inducted as Ike & Tina, not as a solo artist. Same with Gladys Knight. To my knowledge, neither have been nominated as solo artists. And we all know Tina sold way more records solo than she did with Ike.

All were more successful as a group than solo. They didn't break loose and turn into Michael Jackson. They've all had a level of successful solo but their influence and peaks were part of those groups.

ELO should get inducted and it would be cool to see the original guys get back together including Roy Wood. Plus Jeff Lynne has worked with Sir Paul, Ringo, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Brian Wilson et AL. Tupac will be a sure fire bet to go in. Kraftwerk too and maybe Janet and Chic. Pearl Jam seem highly likely but who knows it's usually a very industry based vote so it might surprise us.

You're probably right, 2 of those 3 would be a pleasant surprise.

I agree; Kraftwerk has a pretty good chance given the breadth of their audience.

Just checked her wikipedia page and it looks like she was inducted into the Detroit Hall of Fame. Not entirely sure what that's about. Better than nothing I suppose but she should also be nominated for the RRHOF in my opinion.

Hmmm... Should Kate Bush get nominated??

What about George Michael??

Rick James was (literally!) a punchline at the time he died, for reasons having absolutely nothing to do with his music or his talent. People probably still are impacted by Dave Chappelle's spoof of him.

James Brown was a punchline from Eddie Murphy, MJ from everyone. What does that even mean?
