Bruno is widely regarded as one of the most talented songwriters of this era with his ability to blend genres and make throwback music with a modern twist. Yes he's no innovator, we get that, he's probably gonna end up being labeled as an 'icon' at best. Nobody will talk about him the way you'd talk about Prince or David Bowie or fuckin Ian Curtis. It doesn't matter, he's aware of that.

You think it's hard for him to recruit the baddest musicians today and lock himself up to come up with dark concept matters and end up creating this masterpiece that gets critics all crazy and excited like they do whith Frank Ocean albums or even Miguels?

Bruno Mars is still stuck in the 50s or 90s or whatever, he grew up on that funk/doo-wop/soulpop shit (Like we all did) and he ain't ready to leave that in favor of some "critically acclaimed" output.

Plus, he actually said that he does that as a persona thing. Like. When you see him in SNL rocking shorts and baseball hats, it's his way of living 90s R&B, he probably grew up seeing Boyz II Men doing R&B slow jams in late night TV ans he was like "I wanna feel what they feel". That also explains his all-band same-color outfits back in 2011 with Doo-Wop era (Cause thats what Temptations and other 50s groups used to wear), and his feel-free psychedelic shirts and hats in 2012 (His way of living the late 70s in a post-modern 10s world).

Now tell me if there's anyone on his level of popularity out of all those popstars you see on TV, who have a vision like this and do it for a purpose which they don't care whether it's a fact to the world or not.

Not to mention that for a pop song, "24K Magic" and "Uptown Funk" and also some UJ cuts, are fuckin well-produced.
mad? Dude is bore as an artist. The fake funk is just plain ridiculous.

Lol....Ever heard of this guy named D'angelo? Meshell? Mint Condition? .......what on Earthe are u talking about?

All of this artist are great but they have too many ballads. RnB ballads never cross over and even if they do not cross over who is going to listen to an album of ten slow songs.

Mint Condition is a great band who just will not record uptempo cuts and actually promote them as singels.

Bruno is bringing the uptempo stuff and we really need this right now. I hope RnB groups get a clue from what he is doing and start to go in this direction.

Oh and remember there was another young man over 30 years ago that old heads did not care for and look what happend to him.

Yeah. The artist who makes the most authentic old school sounding music in today's mainstream music is a fraud.

Lol....Ever heard of this guy named D'angelo? Meshell? Mint Condition? .....what on Earthe are u talking about?

Did it really take you 3 individual posts to form a response?

Anyway, you sound like a hipster. The point is Bruno is the main force behind old school sounding music having a place on pop radio.

Yes. Authentic.

D'Angelo? *YAWN* He's talented but maybe I'd care for him more if his music wasn't so boring which outside of Prince and a handful of others seems to be your favorite kind of music.

Mint Condition and Meshell? I don't know too much about either but you rant and rave so much about MC that anyone would think they were the best group in history. There's no reason someone can't like old school funk as well as Bruno Mars but your elitist attitude won't allow you to understand that. Quite frankly, your opinions have long since passed their expiration date.

And again I totally agree here with you Laura. I love D and MeShell, they are two of my favorite artists, but they operate in a different funk corner, much more musical and often at slower tempo.

I didn't like Bruno's older (kinda cheesy) pophits/ballads, but I love the fact that Bruno now comes with more electronic and uptempo R&B/funk: music that is fun and that makes you want to dance.

No it isn't deep or very innovative stuff, but just fun and entertaining and there is certainly a place for that type of music to IMO.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I don't like this turd of an artist and that makes me what? (other than correct)

Bruno Mars' approach isn't far off of the better "funk" that Dr Dre ever programmed.
