As far as I could tell this story didn't make it online so I'm sharing it here via photos...

^ I was looking for this article the other day and couldn't find it. Thanks to both of you!

I was wondering if they actually recorded anything together, and they did. I'd love to hear it.

I think his overall sound owes much more to Hendrix and 80s synthpop bands like New Order than to Prince. It's mostly Prince's one man band approach to music that he seems to be inspired by.

Well, some of his funkier guitar licks do remind of Prince, and his guitar solos are in the same style, but it's not like the guy's using really direct references like, say, Beck did on the Midnite Vultures album.

You'll find that more often than not, it's other people associating him with Prince. He's really spoken about it only a handful of times.

And, again, that's generally other people mentioning the association.

You should actually read a post if you intend to respond to it.

Give the kid a break. He's a talent and takes inspiration from some great musicians, including Prince. He's made some wonderful songs, and occasionally some not so wonderful songs. All I know is, he's pretty good and can properly play. Power is a really great overdriven pop song. His new album is a pretty solid funky pop effort.

Well, Prince thought otherwise, and so do I and many others. It would not be cool if Harts didn't give Prince credit for the nice things he did for him when reporters ask him.

nod Yeah, it's his guitar-playing, independence, and do-it-all-yourself methods that remind me of Prince, otherwise I don't think his music sounds a whole lot like Prince. I'm seeing and hearing more of a Jimi influence these days. While he has his own sound, he doesn't create his music in a vacuum, and neither did Prince.

Released two weeks ago, has just 4,100 views currently. confused

Maybe he really needs the push from a record company. It's his first, professional-quality music video since the first two that were done for his first EP and hardly anybody's seen it.

This is the first time I've seen the video. Initially it was blocked in some countries. He does have a marketing and distribution deal now with Dew Process/Universal, and made the Australian charts for the first time ever (#21 on the album chart). It would be nice to see him get more exposure outside Australia, though. He might be gearing up for that. He said on twitter that he wanted to do proper promo in the US, and the album release here was delayed because of that.

Some new tweets from today...

https://twitter.com/harts...1109465088

I spend more time & resources on the promotion, than the actual creation. Making the music is the easy part. Getting it out is the hard part

https://twitter.com/harts...0527135744

Just getting people to hear about you and give your music a chance is such a struggle. So please be patient with the US release dates.

https://twitter.com/harts...4096197632

Breaking in the US is a huge priority and a crucial step for me. And I need a team, label, marketing $, radio etc to do that. Working on it!

https://twitter.com/harts...4033122304

Thanks for all the support from my US fans out there though! I know you've heard the record. It's all good. I appreciate your support!

To me, his Daydreamer album is one of the most slept on greatest albums in my collection. But in this day and age, can an album be 'slept on' if nobody even knew about it in the first place?

He should team up with Chromeo and do a tour with them. They already have an established fanbase, although they might fear that Darren upstages them if he's the opening act. razz

Harts sure knows how to play guitar, that's for sure. This is the last few minutes from his show last night in Melbourne: https://www.youtube.com/w...pp=desktop

A great gig, but I felt he should take it a bit easier on the Prince impersonation. He's talented enough to go out on his own.

Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.
