confuse She does though! (It's not nice to blame a victim either.)

I'm confused, who blamed a victim here? lol My statements are NOT blaming her, all I'm saying is after looking at the movie, my opinion is that I felt sorry for her when she was with Dre' because no woman should have to go through that, especially when she was a rising star in the industry and needed guidance, but when she got with Suge, she already knew that he was no good...yet she accepted his money and all was supposed to had been good. She saw how awful he treated people and she foolishly thought that he was better than Dre' and believed everything he said. And as I said before she KNEW HE WAS ALREADY MARRIED and still carried on with him. Again, how can you expect things to turn out like a fairytale when you already started off wrong? She said that she "slept with Suge because she wanted to" and there it is. I'm not saying in any way, shape or form that she deserved what she got from him, but she knowingly put herself in yet another potential abusive situation. Life is hard enough with unpleasant and unexpected situations but when you can make a decision to avoid situations that you know could put you in harm's way, wouldn't you go in the opposite direction?

Anyway, I'm glad that she was able to move on from her past and able to walk away before she lost her life.

I don't see how her marital status meant she should expect abuse from either man.

When Dr. Dre was beating her as his common law spouse AND not paying the light bill, Suge was nice and helped her out. Suge encouraged Michel'le to seek rehab and also to see herself as an artist without Dr. Dre's production.

I agree. It was really bad confused One thing that was really strange: he would beat her in a roomful of people and nobody would step in and help her out.

Sorry but you sound incredibly naive. One would think that when you enter into a relationship, the hope is that it will be loving, passionate and long lasting.....sooooo if the man is ALREADY married when you enter into a relationship with him, how can you EXPECT for the man to be committed, faithful, loving and respectful towards you when obviously he isn't doing this with his own WIFE???

Have you not heard of the concept of a wolf in sheep's clothing? Suge knew (just like all the other cowards who stood by and did nothing) that Dre was beating her and treating her like shit. Just because he encouraged her to go to rehab and paid a light bill doesn't mean that he wouldn't have ulterior motives towards her ESPECIALLY with his violent reputation. He took advantage of her vulnerability for HIS benefit. How is this so difficult to understand? SMH confuse

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

EXACTLY!!!! Thank YOU!!! No one helped her out of that crew. They stood by and either watched or listened to Dre' beat the mess out of her. No one got in between him, no one took a stand. That mess with Eazy-E calling her and warning her was weak. If he really wanted to help her, he would've raced to the house and got her out of there himself, but he didn't. Or diverted Dre' somewhere else instead of going home to her. Sorry but the bare minium is not HELP to me. Jerry Heller? According to what we saw, he tried to help somewhat.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

They were raised in a different era. People think Ike Turner was the only one beating ass. A good amount of singers (and men in general) beat their wives or women. It's just how it was.

Jamea Brown, Richard Pryor, David Ruffin, Bobby Womack, Jackie Wilson, and the list goes on.

Ottensen

I've never followed much of anything having to do with West Coast Rap, but I did like all the Michel'le tunes playing on the radio as a kid, so insofar as her biopic, I enjoyed it. It's definitely among the better ones Lifetime has churned out. Having so much backstory on her life and career also filled in a LOT of missing pieces as to why she was so psychologically fragile on the TVOne show "R&B Divas LA" : there were times where it appeared she was on the verge of having some kind of psychotic break- now it makes sense in that while she obviously loves singing and performing, getting back out there likely triggered a lot of traumatic flashbacks and emotional chaos... and would subsequently freak her the EFF out. I was watching a YouTube vlog review from LA native that got her hair done in the same shop as Michel'le regularly in those days, and she recalls her coming in with her face jacked up ALL the time. She describes it as an open secret she was getting her as whooped, with no one really being surprised or seeing it as unusual ( for her particular situation given who she was with).

Excellent examples and agree. I don't see how anybody would interpret Suge's treatment of her as "loving". Its quite obvious he was preying on her and taking advantage of her because she was already being abused by Dre. So he was telling her things and doing things for her in order to gain her trust. Since she was already stripped of her self worth by Dre, it wasn't that hard to gain her trust. She was looking for a way out of being under Dre and Suge provided that athough he was just another user and abuser himself.

I agree but its not just an "era issue" because domestic violence is a very prominent issue in the Black community today as well but as we can see from all these examples, a lot of it is related to mental health, substance use and living in a racially driven society but again these issues continue today and yes its a sad and ugly cycle.

I really would like to see a documentary on Suge Knight because how did a criminal become a CEO of a record label? He was out there killing, stabbing and robbing people AND still running a record label? eek I really feel for Michel'le her movie is inspiring to women. Sistas NEVER, EVER compromise your dreams, goals and worth for NO triflin ass man!!! Never stay with a man that puts his hands on you and disrespects you! Everything that glitter ain't gold! The men in the movie were awful. I love Hip Hop and Rap music but I can just imagine the ordeal and disrespect the women, video girls, etc go through behind the scenes.

Stop. Pump the brakes. I guess you're not familiar with some of the behind the scenes of rock videos, huh? It's not just hip-hop. And Google the infamous incident with the Go Gos.

Of course women are exploited in other genres and in other styles of music videos. However, Black women and women of color, in particular, are sexually exploited disporpotionately in Hip Hop and this same phenomenon trickles beyond music videos and seems to apart of the culture. These women are emotionally and physically abused behind the scenes not just on music video sets but just within those rap entourages and this seems to be acceptable in those circles.

Goes on in Rock n Roll. Read Hammer of the Gods about Led Zepplin or I'am with the band by Pamela Des Barres. Goodness go back to Miles Davis in the jazz era.
