I don't mean to throw shade at Beyonce because I really was thrilled by her performance, but I couldn't help but notice how she just had to drop in at the BET Awards to do a "special" performance but then had to rush out so she could perform the next day. AND it was at a show that made a concerted effort to pay tribute to Prince. She pretty much almost upstaged the whole thing and for what?

Last night she not only stayed for the whole show, but she STILL didn't mention Prince. Anyone paying attention knew that her female formation sign was NOT Prince's symbol.

Could Paul Mooney had been right?

He is right. Beyonce is not as humble as she wants to appear. She is not the only one who acts this way. It will come a time when she really become a vet in the industry and people will forget about her. What goes around and comes around, so let her and others have their moments. She and Rihanna did do tribute on their tours.... So.

the worst part about bart, is he's such a hypocrite, it's on the borderline of maybe mental illness...

he reads and studies everything about a man that he despises... it's pretty insane, he's read every book, knows every little fact... i honestly think he might be secretly in love with prince...

Secretly?

I peeped his fever for the Purple Wand from minute one.

What did Paul Mooney say? I am shocked they didn't recognize them. It would have been the only reason to catch the repeat. What does etc play/show these days. The last program made a point to see was Jeff Buckley hosting 120 minutes.

Prince and David Bowie were bigger than MTV and didnt need it like Madonna n MJ did, even if it did get P out there to the masses...But he was more than MTV and totally above the shitshow MTV is now and they blatantly proved it

Beyonce is a self absorbed egostistical woman. She doesn't care about anything or anybody but herself. Thats not shade that is...just calling spade a spade. MTV also disrespected Michael today and Madonna so I don't care about there dumb award show

.

No they haven't. Chemtrails is bullshit.

.

so why is it wrong that Prince chose to research, discuss & share his thoughts?

.

Because he didn't research shit. He repeated long debunked conspiracy bullshit.

People have also debunked your bullshit you type here too. Prince was expressing his opinion/toughts just like you and me. Right or wrong. Get off your high horse. Stop derailing the thread.

Yes. Glad you are finally waking up to what she's about. biggrin That chick ain't all that cracked up to be. Your realization is what folks have been saying about her for years. She and her husband are about them dollars and that popular life....and thats about it.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

So did the Jacksons. What international tours did Prince have prior to Purple Rain?

Besides, MTV needed Michael, not the other way around. MTV didn't become successful until after they played "Billie Jean" and while Prince may or may not have had his videos played prior doesn't matter considering that the network was flailing until "Billie Jean" was aired.

Prince wasn't known for his videos or used them like Michael did but let's not act as though Prince was above MTV before Purple Rain. Thriller was beginning to sell like hotcakes because of Motown 25, not the "Billie Jean" video although it certainly helped.

Prince toured Europe to promote Dirty Mind. MTV was not failing before Billie Jean came along because if they really belived they needed him they would have gone ahead and played Billie Jean without being forced. I never said Prince was above MTV long after MTV stopped playing his videos he was getting a million dollars a show. Videos have nothing to do with putting dollars in your pocket. He was sitting on 50 million in real estate he did not get the money for that real estate by worrying about MTV.

Didn't know Prince went overseas for Dirty Mind, thanks for that.

It is said almost everywhere that MTV was not doing so great in its first few years. The network didn't turn a profit until 1984 and "Billie Jean" brought the channel more viewers than when it was almost entirely featuring only rock acts. MTV believing they didn't need the video is irrelevant considering that they viewed themselves as a rock music station and "Billie Jean" wasn't rock and considering what playing the video did for them, MTV very much did need Michael.

Videos were a promotional tool so they definitely contributed to artists getting paid. They were another platform in which to get an artist's name out, create/build/expand his or her fanbase and entice viewers to buy the artist's album and/or a ticket to see the artist live. Music videos most certainly served a purpose otherwise artists across the board wouldn't have invested in them. Even people who were against music videos like Bruce Springsteen changed their stance and made them because they knew how beneficial a return on such an investment could be.

You said that Michael needed MTV which based on your very own logic, is a contradiction considering that he and his family were filthy rich already and thus didn't need MTV when we weren't even talking about money in the first place. We're talking about popularity and fame which both Prince and MJ had prior to MTV (the former less than the latter) and those qualities have little to do with being rich.
