You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I think the word "group" can refer to both a band and a singing group. But bands usually have instrumentalists in it. That's why I don't get the term "boy band" when in the past they were just called a vocal group.

Thanks! I always assumed a group were a collection of performers that sing, but don't play instruments. A band would do it all.

It's like the 1950s and 60s Isley Brothers were a vocal group, but when the younger members joined, they became a band. Techically, some of the Mr. Biggs era Isley Brothers songs were really Ronald Isley solo, some had Ernie playing guitar. But none of the other members were involved. I used to think The Four Seasons were a vocal group, but later found out they were a band.

I guess the two vocal groups I listed could have actually played instruments.

I have to add another band

Switch

1. There'll Never Be
2. Love Over and Over Again
3. I Call Your Name

Okay, so I was going to post the studio version of this next song, but then I came across this live version. First time I heard this song performed live, too. Damn, that guy could sing!
