Normani Kordei (Fifth Harmony) Quits Twitter Over Racist Bullying

Normani is speaking out.

Fifth Harmony's Normani Kordei announced on Saturday that she's quitting Twitter after years of cyberbullying from internet trolls. "I am taking a break from Twitter for now," she wrote in the lengthy, emotional statement. "Over the past four years of being in the public eye I've learned to grow a thick skin to critics and those who may not like me." The singer said she is not one to deny anybody else their opinions, but the previous 48 hours she claimed to not just be cyberbullied, but also "racially bullied," with tweets and pictures that she described as "so horrific and racially charged that I can't subject myself any longer to the hate."

Kordei knows she's not the first or last black female celeb to deal with this kind of abuse, but she suggested that "Love goes much further than hate in this world." The heartfelt note came a few days after Kordei was forced to address "unjust hate and slander" from those she said were questioning her commitment to the group and its other members. "I have love and respect for all four of my bandmates whether you choose to believe it or not," she wrote on Thursday.

According to E! Online, Kordei was inundated with hateful tweets following a Facebook Live interview last Monday. After describing Ally Brooke as "sunshine," Dinah Jane as the "turn up queen" and Lauren Jauregui as the group "therapist," haters focused on Kordei's answer describing Camila Cabello as "very quirky... yeah," saying it seemed to take Kordei too long to come up with an honorific for Camila.

That lead to the above tweet, in which she also noted, "we learn in life that evil spirits exist and people don't always treat you fairly but you continue to love anyway." Kordei, 20, has not tweeted since saying she was signing off.

Cabello, 19, had nothing but support for Kordei in a series of tweets on Saturday night. "I stand by the words 'love only,' meaning I won't tolerate on my timeline any kind of hate, racism, or discrimination towards ANYONE," she wrote, adding that you don't have to hate on someone to support her.

Sheit..not where people like Trump keep saying dumb shit to keep it alive. As well, people behind a computer are the worst. They can be racist, log off and act like nothing happened.

That's freedom of speech though no matter how ugly :smh:

I haven't seen the pics, but apparently people are photoshopping her face on old photos of black people getting lynched.

Racism never left (and never will) but it's coming out into the open again.

Identity

Racism is that one immovable stain upon the pages of America history that still affects the daily lives of people. It will always be with us. Those who believe racism can be eradicated through legislative action have deluded themselves.

I only agree with Will on the "It's getting filmed" part.

I think there's bigotry all over the world, not just in the states. Like China & Tibet.
