I watched the Oscar-winning documentary, Amy, recently. Tragic ending for a young and talented artist. sad

It's an amazing, heartbreaking film. We were all expectators of her decline, it was all so fast, so relentless. I would have loved to see where her career would have taken her, had she managed to sort herself out. Her two albums are probably my favourite 21st Century albums (Lioness, not so much...)

Wish I got 2 c her perform live. She was hounded by the paparazzi and while I thought she was getting the help she needed, she was, like any of us, a human after all, and broken-hearted, which may have caused her 2 relapse, not 2 mention her deteriorating health, at such a young age due 2 her alcohol and drug use. Still, her death came as a shock 2 many of us. sad

If you want to know what Amy's best concert was, youtube Amy Winehouse North Sea Jazz Festival 2004. I discovered it after seeing the Amy documentary. Truly sublime from start to finish.

i hope 214, you do not mind me posting these wonderful lyrics that amy winehouse sang so beautifully and soulfully.

i'm sure you know the origins of the songs.

i love the fact that amy "did her own thing" as far as the music she chose to record and do live. her voice, nothing less than unique in sound.

'will you still love me tomorrow'

November 1960

Tonight you're mine, completely
You give your soul so sweetly
Tonight the light of love is in your eyes
But will you love me tomorrow

Is this a lasting treasure
Or just a moment's pleasure
Can I believe the magic in your sighs
And will you still love me tomorrow

Tonight with words unspoken
You say that I'm the only one
But will my heart be broken
When the night meets the morning sun

I'd like to know if your love
Is a love I can be sure of
So tell me now and I won't ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow
Will you still love me tomorrow
Will you still love me tomorrow

dove

"Our Day Will Come"

February 1964

'ruby and the romantics'

>

Our day will come
(Our day will come)
And we'll have everything
We'll share the joy
(We'll share the joy)
Falling in love can bring

No one can tell me
That I'm too young to know
(Too young to know)
I love you so
(Love you so)
And you love me

Our day will come
(Our day will come)
If we just wait a while
No tears for us
(No tears for us)
Think love and wear a smile

Our dreams have magic
Because we'll always stay
In love this way
Our day will come

Yeah, she sang a lot covers and jazz standards, but she also penned her own songs and was great at it, which is not surprising she worked as a journalist as a teen. She recorded her version of Our Day Will Come during her Frank album days.

Besides being a great singer I also thought she was a very attractive girl (when she had some meat on her bones). I thought she was quite sexy honestly.

Loved it the minute I heard a DJ spin it at the Virgin Records store. I said, "Who's that?!" cool

Also she had a great personality and wouldn't sugar coat things when it came to talking about other artists for eg. Dido oh the non-verbal shade is priceless. lol

Conor

I enjoyed her music, and I made a point of seeing her live at a club here named London Calling on College Street. Unlike Prince, with WInehouse you knew that the end was coming, she was a trainwreck. AT the concert she couldn't wait to get off stage and get even more pissed - the audience were handing her drinks as she performed and she was downing them. Total self-destruction.

Speaking of that song, I found this video of Prince playing an instrumental version of that song in Oslo 2011. I've heard the audio before but never seen any footage until now. Here's a link
