You mean "Peace has come to Zimbabwe" or "Lets sit by why Dictator for life Robert Mugabe changes the country to the laughing stock of Africa with record inflation, mass killings, rigged elections, coups, disfunction and still holding power while he is like 93 years old, Yet under the 1970s Rhodesia as run by whites, was a model country in Africa and not actually that racist, Blacks were in all apsects of life and even appeared on their stamps.

.

Yeah Stevie was being naive with those lyrics, although the unity and anti racism message is refreshing and positive, it is not an issue he has not tackled before and apart from some appealing beats, there is not much else to this song. Songs like Happy Birthday, I wish, Livin for the city and boogie on reggae woman, are much better exponents of the message.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I think that "Living for the City" is Stevie's greatest song. I love the song (although it's not my favorite). It is such a masterpiece, in terms of the lyrics, storytelling, vocals, and the use of real-life sounds (traffic).

LFTC is not a song I recall hearing as a kid. I became more exposed to it as an adult, within the past 10 years. (I am 30 years old). I've dome some research about the song in the last year or so, but before I did the research, just from listening to the track, I comprehended everything in the song up until the interlude. During the interlude, I got lost a bit as to what was happening. I can't recall what I understood, but I probably got the part where he was sentenced and put in jail, I just didn't pick up on why he got arrested. It took researching the song before I was really able to "get" everything in the interlude.

I agree, I said that song was my 3rd favourite behind SOML and Lately. I merely quoted it was a better example of the message being conveyed in Master Blaster.

.

The message in living for the city, still applies today and more so.

It is tragic that Living for the City's message is still as applicable today as it was 43 years ago; almost half a century and so little change. I have loved that song since hearing at a kid and it was one of the first 45s I ever bought, although that was unfortunately the edited single version. The message, lyrics, musicianship, vocals, soul, funk, everything about that track IMO is off the charts genius. It is more like an epic movie than a song in some ways and the level of "vision" he demonstrates for a blind man is astonishing. Bit ironic in the interlude how he says, "Wow, New York, just like I pictured it, skyscrapers and everything," when in fact Stevie never got to see skyscrapers himself. Imagine what an awesome music video this track could have lent itself too if done on the scale of Michael Jackson's epic music videos. To me, I think this song is not just arguably Stevie's ultimate masterwork but makes a strong case as the best ever by anyone, period. Powerful and overflowing with soul. Even as a white kid and now older adult, I still get chills when I hear it and feel the same outrage coming over me making me want to scream out against racial injustice. What a masterpiece.

It really is a masterpiece, specially the ending coda which goes into the Golden Lady beginning, it's just beautiful, wonderful song; just the saturday at night i was listening to some Stevie's songs; mostly Innversions songs, you don't have idea how much i enjoyed it.

His drumming on Innervisions is awesome too and really helps elevate it all.

Oh yeah, All Day Sucker is one of my favorites off Songs in the Key of Life. Funkiest track along with I Wish. Have a Talk With God is pretty funky too, just wish it was longer.

Why twelve? Just curious . . .

Anyways, there's nothing really surprising with most of these lists. Wonder's brilliance is mostly
captured in these tunes and agreed upon by 9 outta 10 living and breathing persons with at least
half a brain.

"All Day Sucker" is a beast; please tell me that's Wonder on drums. Yep - that's him.
