Paul Simon's Stranger to Stranger is the best album of the year

I have always been pessimistic of old time legends being able to hold on their magic and move forward. But damn if Paul Simon doesn't always prove me wrong. And his mind sounds as sharp as ever. Certainly sharper than mine ever was, and most young people only 1/3 of his age.

I have always viewed him as someone who has been able to release intelligent and interesting music over six decades, which is remarkable. I think that one of his gifts has been to write songs that truly reflect his age and to refuse to dumb down his music. Your post reminded me that I need to check his new release out.

Just checked metacritic and it seems all major publications agree that it is an exceptional album. ..well with the lone exception of Spin magazine who calls it a mixed bag.

It's a really well made album and one I have played the hell out of. My one concern is I listen to it on Spotify instead of having bought it outright. I hope all us Spotify listeners add up to make it worthwhile for great product to prosper.

I love the new Santana album. Carlos got together with the original Santana lineup. Ronald Isley sings on two of the songs.

'stranger to stranger' is a very good paul simon album...a bit somber, but i guess that's what you get from an artist nearer the end of his life than he is to his prime. certainly not his best album, or his recent best; i think 'so beautiful or so what' is a much better album.

this santana album, though...man...i've only listened to 2 sides so far, and they haven't even piqued my interest enough to put the second disc on. it sounds like it was written by a thirteen year old at the school of rock. i'm pretty disappointed on first impression...

Yes it's a bit somber, but so charming at the same time. I won't say if it's his best recent album as that's subjective, but I do agree that it's a very good album. Simon has always kept a certain level of greatness to every album and i dont think he has ever released a bad album.

You won't have a next time... He's retiring.
