Which album is Janet Jackson's most influential? Out of the four classics which album do you think made the most impact on the industry/culture/artists? | |

I loved TVR and the tour was off the chain.......but I would say her most iconic album is Control. That album alone spawned copy cats from Jody Watley, Pebbles, Paula Abdul and in the last 15 years Britney or so......that is when u know u are influencing the game........it was and still is the blueprint. My fav song He doesn't Know That I'm Alive, The Pleasure Principle and of course Nasty. Rhythm Nation wasn't just an Album it was a Fucking movement...Janet morphed into something we never seen before and she was determined to get our attention....Janet had the Music World in the Palm of her hands. We stayed with her and looked forward to all her future projects...Janet raised the bar for Recording Artists and how they packaged their projects....She paved the way for Beyonce... | |

Rhythm Nation influenced everyone from Beyonce to Madonna to MJ. That was when she proved that she could compete with the big guys and is her best album to date. |

I agree about both control and rn's impact, especially controls. Janet's visual album for rn definitely influenced Beyoncé The velvet rope has actually been credited recently for influencing current indie r&b and ambient and trip hop sounds though I think it was part of a large crop of influences of similar genres then. That album is the most timeless of fees if you ask me | |

I prefer Control by miles. I would say that it contains Janet's sound in its purest form. Not sure of its impact on other artists though. Life Matters | |

It's a consistent album start to finish though I mainly hear influences of Prince, mj and freestyle & funk of that time. Just to clarify, when I said that I wasn't sure of her influence on other artists I meant that because of my lack of awareness of the artists that may have been influenced by her, not because I didn't think she had influenced anyone. Similar to CM57, I think Janet's first album is her best, but it was a declaration of independence. Rhythm Nation was her Statement Album, and due largely to its immense chart success and landmark videos, I think it's her most influential. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

No, your post was clear. Was mainly talking about my own views of the album I think. I also think her voice is pretty and cute on her first album, very soothing. It's like a girly off the wall, and I think all for you in a way is like a mature, sexy sequel to it sometimes. There are definitely underrated gems on there and it was a hit with the r&b crowd, thriller was just sandwiched between the first 2 albums and overshadowed them. With control and rn, her singing style is different and chant like on some tracks , which we don't hear in the beginning of her singing career | |
