Make sure to always buy your wax from independent stores.

Help your community. They usually have the best music, and they let you browse.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

I agree.

I'm a huge believer in supporting local businesses as much as possible anyway. But I'd never buy a record in a place like FYE (which is actually based in my town). I think the last thing I bought at FYE was The 20/20 Experience from Timberlake, on vinyl. Part 1 was from FYE, but Part 2 was at Target, I think.

But yeah, our main local wrecka stow here is pretty sweet. It's a tiny little house that they've converted. When I moved here almost 20 years ago, I had lost all my vinyl, and all my CDs, except Emancipation (which was ironically fitting to my situation), and a couple other non-Prince CDs. I have rebuilt my 435+ vinyl collection since then, and 99% of it came from that one place. Frankly, I should own a piece of the place by now. I told the owner that story last summer, and he was happy to hear it.

There's a lovely ginger bearded fellow in there who I get to talking to Madonna about, for some reason. The last time I was in, he came up on me out of the blue, and said "This just came in but we haven't put it out yet. We'd take $30 for it." It was Madonna's Sex book. It was pretty decent condition. A few scuffs on the cover, no mylar or CD, but it does have the comic book still attached. And I think, judging by the number, it's one of the first 100,000 printings. I had him put it on hold, and when I got paid 3 days later, I went back & got it. (It was one of those bills-first kinda weeks.)

I dug that he rememberd me enough that he brought that thing out when I showed up, instead of just putting it on the shelf.

Not only do I get most of my vinyl from the local record store...but almost all of the CD collection, too. I can spend hours in there happily browsing. You can sit and read books and magazines, too. wink

In my town (check my profile if you want to know where it is), we now have two record stores where there used to be only one! As Curtis Mayfield said... Move on up!

Well said. Their stock is not charts-dictated, they mostly appeal to collectors, and they're very good at ordering stuff for you. Many of them will ship to out-of-towners who buy in their stores but don't have room to take records back with them.
