What happened to Chaka Khan's I-Khan album?

Last I heard it was meant to come out a few years back, but alas, no sign of a new album.

Is she still working on the I-Khan album or has it been scrapped? Been listening a lot to the fantastic Funk This album recently, and would love to hear some new Chaka.

it was scrapped, along with the jazz and gospel projects she was working on at the same time. she couldn't get a distribution deal. Last I heard, she was working on a Joni Mitchell tribute album, which will also get scrapped. People over at her board's biggest complaint is all of these promises over the past several years that she has failed miserably at delivering on.

Such a shame that she's only released two albums of original material since 1998. Love me some Chaka.

I heard she was back with Jam & Lewis, but who knows? The only thing goin' on over at Flyte Tyme that I've read about is that they're workin' on some tracks with Peabo Bryson.

Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

I can't understand why she's having trouble getting some kind of record deal confuse There are plenty of other old school artists who are releasing new music on a regular basis.I'd love to see Chaka go back into the studio with Jam and Lewis.....or how about a reunion album with Rufus?

Hit or miss sales? I hope she is not hard to work with...she is very exceptional to a live show. She should be over her alcohol issues etc by now and looks great.

I think its that she cant get the kind of deal she wants. There are labels that welcome classic artists but the artists are probably being paid pennies for each album sold. Just prior to her last album, she made a comment that she refuses to release an album if she did not own the master. So i really think that is what is keeping her from getting a new product out there. I have never heard a producer say she is difficult to work with. However, when she went on CNN after Nippy died and called the music business satanic, i think she may have shot herself in the foot and burned some bridges in the process. Also she has made it clear several times there will be no Rufus reunion.

It's a shame, isn't it? confused The only way she would be able to keep her master recording is if she formed her own independent label. We all know it's very difficult to do that.Too much time and money.I guess that maybe Chaka will just continue to put out new singles here and there,as opposed to a full complete album. Can't say I blame her.

That's too bad confused I remember seeing a re-formed Rufus and Chaka Khan in 2001.They were on a tour with Earth Wind and Fire.Their performance was excellent and I assumed that all of the drama and hard feelings were a thing of the past.I guess not, huh?

Yeah, I went to the show when they came to Detroit (Chaka's folks sent me free tickets, 6th row!!!). Chaka did a meet & greet backstage, took pictures, etc. I got a chance to gush over C.K. and chat with Hawk and John Robinson. Also, got a chance to meet a couple members of EW&F at that time. The Rufus reunion tour was cut short and the reunion album was also cancelled. Chaka never went into detail but she did say there were still some unresolved issues amongst the group so that's why things didn't work out and she had no desire to try again.

To be honest,I'm not too excited about a Joni Mitchell covers album. For the most part,I find covers albums to be predictable and lazy.I hope that's not her next project.

You know what would be great? An official release of Chaka's 1995 shelved album 'Dare You To Love Me'.There is some strong material on that album.Chaka has expressed her disappointment that it was never released.Maybe she could work out some kind of deal to get it finally released.

She said she gave up on that one a long time ago. WB is not interested and as long as they own the masters, it will remain unreleased.

Too bad that these bullshit oldies stations can't play new music from these older artists; it would be amazing to hear them again.

It seems like,at that point,Warners didn't know what to do with Chaka. It was the mid-90s and it's apparent that they were thinking that she was "over" and unable to have anymore hit singles confused Any Chaka fan can listen to "Dare You To Love Me" and find many great songs to enjoy.I guess that wasn't good enough for Warners.

Other possibilities could be for WB to issue a proper Greatest Hits or Best Of package stateside and release the remaining unissued "Dare" tracks as part of the compilation or if Funkytown Grooves reissued a deluxe version of "Woman I Am" and included them as bonus tracks. But I don't see either of those happening.

has the Rufus featuring Chaka Khan CDs been remastered yet? I keep waiting and hoping that those classic albums get the remastered treatment.

There were some japan mini sleeves of their entire ABC/MCA catalog released a few years ago that sounded way better than the CDs released stateside. But still no proper remastered/deluxe treatments. There are quad versions of the earlier albums that i would love to have as part of some double disc reissues. Neither Universal or Warner have done justice to reissing her catalog. Still alot of unreleased songs in Warner's vaults.

several of those japan mini sleeve titles were re-released a few weeks ago so most of them should be relatively easy to find at decent prices. The only title that was a part of the original reissue series that has not seen a second release is "Camouflage", her final album with the band. That one is rare.

I had always heard Prince's legal team helped her get out of her WB contract. She said she left not only because of the shelved album, but the staff had changed so much at the company, she didnt have anyone there who cared about or knew who she was as an artist. They were trying to turn her into a dance diva and that was not the direction she wanted to go so she booked.

Chaka can always join an independent label, of which there are lots; she doesn't necesscarily have to start her own company.
