Mine (in no particular order):
Bruce Springsteen - The River
The Clash - London Calling

Another Stevie album (this one in particular is criminally underrated!) "Journey Through The Secret Life Of Plants"
Derek & the Dominos (Eric Clapton, Duane Allman and co.) - Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs
The Rolling Stones - Exile On Main St.
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
Prince - Sign O The Times
The Beatles - White Album
.
An honorable mention goes out to...
Prince - Emancipation
James Brown - Star Time
Miles Davis - Agharta (funky as hell!) & Dark Magus (urrghh very creepy sound, i recommend u don't listen to it at night or else it'll give u some badass nightmares)
.

Husker Du - Zen Arcade

Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime

Who - Tommy

Who - Quadrophenia

1999

SITKOL

SOTT

Exile

JCS

White Album

Those top two completely revised my idea about rock music, punk and human potential back in 1985. Of any of the albums we're talking about those are the ones I believe to be most overlooked. Punk rockers know them but most do not.

I'm pretty sure I bought them when they came out and they're not single. The CDs were single. The albums were too long for a single LP. Heavy Rhyme Experience by BNH was a single LP. Many CD era albums were double vinyl and Michael Jackson's History is a 3 record set.

Quick off topic question, is that Tinashe in your avatar? If so then dope wink Love Tinashe, it's cool to see other fans too. Anyway here's mine

Bone Thugs N Harmony - The Art Of War
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Iron Maiden - Book Of Souls
Krayzie Bone - Thug Mentality 1999

That's all I can think of at the moment as like the top double albums for me.

A few obvious choices and a few surprises from me. Ever since the CD age, we have albums that were released as 1 CD/2 LP, but these don't count imo. Here we go:

Bob Dylan: Blonde on Blonde
Rolling Stones: Exile on Main St.
Frank Zappa: Sheik Yerbouti
James Brown: The Payback
Prince: Sign O' the Times
Marvin Gaye: Here, My Dear
Kate Bush: Aerial
Jimi Hendrix: Electric Ladyland
Isaac Hayes: Black Moses
Boudewijn de Groot: Een hele tour (two live CDs from this Dutch artist.)

Hendrix' Band of Gypsys was originally released as a single LP.

Use Your Illusion I & II, which was basically a double album sold separately.

They were both double vinyls - I remember they were really low priced when they came out and I had both - lord knows what happened to them

Oh and another great double is Donna Summer - Bad Girls
