Earth, Wind & Fire Appreciation Thread

Now I know there's a Maurice White Memorial thread on here, but I want to do an appreciation thread on Earth, Wind & Fire. Come post your fave memories on the band and their solo stuff (sans White, since he has his own thread). Long live the "Mighty Elements of the Universe".

New Philip Bailey interview

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Even though EWF rarely played straight funk by its true definition (on the ONE), they had plenty funky songs

Mighty Mighty

Let Your Feelings Show
Moment Of Truth
Come On Children
Jupiter
Celebrate
Gratitude
Yearnin Learnin
Body Wrap
Magic Mind
Fair But So Uncool
Let Me Talk
In Time
Lady Sun
Star
You And I
Cant Let Go
Etc

The Power/Africano medley from Gratitude gets my vote, just superfunky on every level cool

Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...
Always cry for love, never cry for pain...

Same here. I've dug a lot of their '70s albums, but September is just one of my all-time songs. Never fails to cheer me up if I am feeling down smile.

The middle eight section in "Sweet Sassy Lady" is a compositional marvel.

I should add that Maurice White's death is a major loss and the closing of a chapter in
my life from childhood. Means I'm getting old.

Fuck.
