I just got up to use the bathroom and heard the news. I thought I was still asleep and dreaming. It's just so unreal because there was no clue that he was sick. cry

Rest well, Goblin King. rose

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

faint I spent all of last evening reacquainting myself with this man's gift. Blackstar is a gem.

That said, I must admit I'm not sure whether I'm blindsided by sadness or awe at how utterly stylish even his departure is. May he rest in peace and power.

Sad news indeed. I knew he was ill, but not that it was that bad. I think that's also why there is a new album out: he wanted to release it while he still could. This must be very strange for his fans: having such good news and bad news at the same time. RIP.
(On a side note: I wish people would stop talking about "battling" cancer as if it's some sort of fight you can win as opposed to a terrible desease.)

I dont even know how to put into words...

I was just the other day smiling as I went past new advertising for Black Star...a little bit of magic on my commute home...smiling every day since...except today.

RIP Bowie. Thanks for the music, you took us to places other performers dare not go. Thank-you.

Missed dearly already.

I'm so shocked. Holding back tears. I just found out on Sananda Maitreya's writings on Facebook. Man this makes me so sad. I was honored to see him in concert(Glass Spider Tour 1988 at MSG) and boy did he put on a great show and I still say sound wise the best technically sounding concert ever I ever attended. RIP Sir.

Only surprised that it happened so soon after the album was released.

Why, you knew?

"Lazarus", the video as well, "Dollar Days", "I can't give everything away" really hit me in the gut now.

I'm really sad.

Watching the last video he ever made over and over...

Some points stick out at me after this news hit.

The hospital/bed theme makes sense now. I rember watching the video premier a few days ago and his apperance shocked me as it he appeared more frail than even in the Blackstar video. I shrugged it off as i assumed it was to match the theme of the video.

Watching further, the woman in the room, does she represent death? As she attempst to creep up on him as he lays there?

Then you see him frantically writing away as if he knows time is running out...? And then retreating into the cupboard, is he hiding from her?

I cant watch it now without thinking "he really knew this was his last video, his last message to fans...surely this was all on purpose??"

On a less morbid note, I am very glad he got to see the release and critical acclaim of this album, a very worthy album to close out his legacy with. The sheer determination to finish the album and see it release surely kept him alive a few days longer.

My mind now wonders, when he was preparing the recent "Nothing Has Changed" 3CD collection, he would have had a fair idea of his situation, and im sure it was gratifying that he was able to celebrate all his creations by curating that collection how he saw fit.

We are truely blessed he could give as much as he did and having Blackstar as a parting gift speaks volumes.

No, I didn't know. I can't make the claim that I was 100% sure. I just had a bad feeling about what was to come after paying more attention to the lyrics on the album. Especially the last two tracks.

Also, releasing an album like Blackstar when he knew he was going to die is exactly what Dave would do. wink

A young lady on the bus suddenly addressed me, I don't know her at all. Her eyes were filling with tears when she told me Bowie has passed away. I was in shock and we shared some memories we had; watching Labyrinth as kids, growing up with his music, seeing him perform live.

There was this odd connection. Just moments after our conversation, Heroes was played on the radio, I just couldn't speak anymore, neither could she. When we arrived at our bus stop we looked at eachother, just completely and deeply sad. We then went our separate ways.

Such a strange experience, it felt unreal and more real than anything at the same time.

Yes, "Dollar Days" and "I can't give everything away" seem to show their true meaning, now... I mean, he seems to singi "I'm dying, too" at the end of "Dollar Days". I took that as a general acknowledgement of aging, but... oh boy. sad sad sad sad sad sad sad

yeah, and also simply the mood of those two last songs seemed ominous to me. I was almost going to comment here last week when the album came out that "I Can't Give Everything Away" sounded like something that might be the last one of his career. I didn't make the comment because it would have been in a questionable taste then, but yeah, I had my suspicions.

RIP Bowie. I still can't understand, so strange, yet I felt a bit strange looking at Lazarus some days ago... Felt morbid when I saw it for some reason, but now it feels even stranger. A genius to the end. You will NOT be forgotten. Inspiration to so many different creative movements. You'll be missed. Last song I heard was Ashes to Ashes and his new album... So crazy. Thinking of Iman and their daugther.
