Beethoven

Today is Beethoven's birthday! And while Mozart is my favorite composer, Beethoven is not
too far behind. Below is his Große Fuge which is one of my favorite pieces from this genius.
It was hard to appreciate initially because of some of the dissonance but after awhile, I came
to really love its preternaturality and strangeness.

Kudos to you if you can make it through!

I've only ever heard his fifth, and wasn't really feelin it; I heard Mozart's Don Giovanni and was blown away. I really should listen to more western art, one of friends absolutely adores beethoven and she plays the french horn for some symphony in europe so maybe I should.

Did Prince ever deny he had sex with his sister? I believe not. So there U have it..

Classical music enriches me as a person and hyperbolically, reveals the existence of the divine.

I love how emotional Beethoven's music is. Mozart has his moments, but you can usually tell what Beethoven's state of mind was like when he composed something because it was part of the piece. Amazing stuff!

Not only that, he was politically involved too! He dedicated Eroica to Napoleon, but then withdrew it when Boney crowned himself emperor of France. I love Alle Menschen Werden Bruder, but, unfortunately, the town where I live (Gouda, Holland, a beautiful historical town) has a bell tower that plays it every half hour every day! It's driving me crazy! I love good old Ludwig Van, but the same tune over and over again... mad
