Legendary R&B recording artist Meli’sa Morga releases her new single “So Good,” and the song, is well, so good! To celebrate the release of the season two soundtrack of Fox’s hit drama “Empire”, Columbia Records has released one of the project’s potent tracks, a duet between Jussie Smollett and Alicia Keys called “Powerful.” The song is an anthem for world peace and harmony. “Every shade was beautifully made and powerful, there’s so much strength in you and me / Powerful, a breath away from victory / I matter, you matter, we matter,” they wail on the chorus. Alicia Keys will guest star as a pop star named Skye Summers on next week's episode (Nov. 25).
Empire: Original Soundtrack, Season 2 Volume 1 is the follow up to Season 1’s chart-topping soundtrack. The release features songs from the first half of Season 2 and never-before-heard songs from upcoming episodes. The LP includes cast members Jussie Smollett (Jamal Lyon) and Yazz (Hakeem Lyon), alongside Terrence Howard (Lucious Lyon) and guest stars Timbaland, Pitbull, Alicia Keys, Bre Z, V. Bozeman and Serayah. The soundtrack was produced by Timbaland, NE-YO, J.R. Rotem and Swizz Beatz. Katy Perry is spreading holiday cheer with a new Christmas song called "Every Day Is a Holiday" for H&M's new #HappyAndMerry campaign. In the video, the twinkly-eyed pop star dances among gingerbread men and sings on the merry tune, "Every day is a holiday when you're the reason to celebrate." Bruce Springsteen, ‘The Ties That Bind: The River Collection': Album Review Columbia Records
Back in 1979, Bruce Springsteen was all set to release the follow-up to the previous year’s Darkness on the Edge of Town. After legal problems made the wait between that album and its predecessor, the breakthrough Born to Run, a long three years – an eternity in the ’70s – Springsteen was more than ready to get back into the studio. He had written and recorded hundreds of songs for Darkness and its follow-up, which was going to be called The Ties That Bind. The single-record project, like the album before it, took on a somber tone, as Springsteen, approaching his 30s, explored grown-up themes like marriage and responsibility. But something happened on the way to the album’s release. Springsteen pulled the record and decided to revisit the project with more upbeat songs, and ended up with the double-LP epic The River in 1980 instead. The Ties That Bind: The River Collection — a box set that gathers 52 songs from the sessions on four CDs, as well as three DVDs of video content from the era — tells the story of how one of music’s most determined artists scrapped a great album and replaced it with an even better one. Lengthening the 10-song The Ties That Bind made the double-LP The River a more expansive record, and not just in physical size. By broadening his scope, Springsteen guaranteed The River wouldn’t be just Darkness on the Edge of Town Part II. The original Ties That Bind — collected here in its entirety and made up of some songs that ended up on The River, some that didn’t and some that did in different versions — scales back the breadth of the two-record edition, tightening some of the loose ends and in some ways laying a more solid foundation for the songs. But The River works better as narrative and as the next step in Springsteen’s evolution as one of rock’s most powerful songwriters. For further proof as to just how prolific and consistent he was during this period, check out the 22 outtakes from the album’s sessions. Several ended up as B-sides, bonus tracks and songs on 1998’s odds-and-ends box set Tracks, but they take on new perspective in this light, not only revealing that Springsteen had enough material for a four-LP set but also how differently The River might have sounded with some alterations. Like 2010’s The Promise, which gathered a ton of Darkness on the Edge of Town leftovers, The Ties That Bind: The River Collection is more rewarding if you’re familiar with the original material. Songs like “Meet Me in the City,” “Roulette,” “Where the Bands Are,” “Living on the Edge of the World” and “Held Up Without a Gun” are great songs that fit into The River‘s concept, but what would they replace? It’s tough to say. In the end, The River was the album Springsteen needed to make at that time. Not The Ties That Bind or any other record filled with the session songs found on this box. But the set uncovers an alternate history that bridges Springsteen’s first (his most significant) and second (his most commercially successful) decades. Would it have steered him away from Nebraska and in turn the superstar-making behemoth Born in the U.S.A.? Probably not, but this mammoth, exhaustive and terrific collection explores the possibilities. Veteran soul singer Charles Bradley has filmed a video for his cover of Black Sabbath‘s “Changes,” originally released as a vinyl exclusive from Record Store Day Black Friday 2013. Rolling Stone reports that director Eric Feigenbaum initially planned on making a standard performance video for “Changes,” but given Bradley’s intense emotional connection to the song, he opted to simply film Bradley’s face as he listened and responded to the track. “”We only did that once,” Feigenbaum is quoted as saying. “By the end of the take, everybody in the room was holding back tears.” As Bradley explained in a statement, the Sabbath classic has a deep personal meaning for him. “I think about the lyrics very closely when I sing ‘Changes’ and get emotional,” he said. “It makes me think of my mother and the changes in my life since she passed away.” Bradley’s close bond with his mother is just one of the aspects of his life and career explored in the documentary Charles Bradley: Soul of America, which arrived on VOD services in 2013. The film recounts the often difficult circumstances he’s faced, and though it ends on a somewhat triumphant note, footage of Bradley sleeping in his mother’s basement is just one sobering part of an unflinching portrayal of his gentle perseverance in the face of lifelong adversity. While he’s continued to deal with personal loss, Bradley’s career is definitely on the upswing. “Changes,” which is available for purchase now, serves as the title track from his next LP, which is due April 1 and will be followed by a spring European tour. In March 2015, Eric Clapton turned 70. Two months later, he set up camp at London’s Royal Albert Hall for a series of seven shows, 50 years after his first performance at the legendary venue with the Yardbirds. The concerts also marked his 17th residency there was well as his 200th performance. “It’s a very comfortable, homey place for me,” Clapton noted. “I tend to think of it as mine.” The event was recorded for Slowhand at 70: Live at the Royal Albert Hall, a deluxe DVD and two-CD set that covers a lot of ground, especially hitting vintage blues classics like “Key to the Highway” and “Hoochie Coochie Man,” but not skipping the Clapton hits you’d expect. “Wonderful Tonight” and “Tears in Heaven” are here, as are his signature covers of Bob Marley‘s “I Shot the Sheriff” and an energetic take on J.J. Cale’s “Cocaine.” Elsewhere, “Layla” gets the mellow, unplugged treatment, with Clapton displaying his skills on acoustic guitar, and things pick up on “Let It Rain” and “Crossroads,” featured on Slowhand at 70 in a slower, funkier groove than the one he originally played with Cream. The show also mixed in a few surprises, including a slick but somewhat sterile version of Steve Winwood‘s “Can’t Find My Way Home” (from the one Blind Faith album the pair made together). Sung by bassist Nathan East, Clapton steps out of the spotlight while providing some tasteful, if a bit bland, licks. He also pulls out two Joe Cocker songs, with keyboardist Paul Carrack taking lead vocals on a faithful “You Are So Beautiful” and 1971’s “High Time We Went,” a highlight of this package. Clapton has gone through various phases in his career, and thankfully Slowhand at 70 doesn’t attempt to pull them all together. Instead, they provide a snapshot of the guitar legend in his element, onstage and enjoying himself, celebrating his own musical legacy as well as those who’ve inspired him.

Steve Perry Reveals Plans for New Solo Album
Steve Perry has spent most of 2015 working on his first solo album in more than 20 years. The former Journey vocalist shared the news during a call-in to the Mark in the Morning show on KSWD-FM in Los Angeles (via Melodic Rock), during which Perry — who was phoning to wish radio personality “Uncle” Joe Benson a happy birthday — fielded a few questions about his future plans. “I’m in the studio,” Perry said when asked what he’s been up to lately. “You know, actually, I started — there’s been so many rumors going around that I’m in the studio, that I’ve been there for years. The truth is, I finally went into the studio in March, and I’ve been in there ever since, just trying to finish this record.”
As Perry noted, there’s really never any shortage of rumors regarding his current activities, and given that he hasn’t released a solo record since 1994’s For the Love of Strange Medicine, it would probably be wise not to hold one’s breath while waiting for the new album to appear. Still, even though he stopped short of making any promises in terms of a release date, Perry seemed optimistic that he’d have it out soon. “I’ve asked myself that today,” joked Perry when asked when he expected to finish the new album. “I’m looking forward to finishing it, put it that way. I want to get it done probably in the early part of this coming year.”

Pop star Ariana Grande dropped a surprise, holiday-themed EP titled "Christmas and Chill" online Thursday — marking the third straight year she's released at least one Christmas tune. The unannounced song collection features five new, original tracks from Grande — with several of them boasting especially festive names such as "Wit It This Christmas," "December" and "Not Just One For Christmas."
Grande had teased that she could have new music on the way the past few days, and she confirmed it on Twitter on Thursday with a series of tweets to her nearly 35 million followers. "Should already be out overseas!" she wrote. "Hope my babies are enjoying #ChristmasAndChill. It'll be out here tonight." In typical Grande fashion, the holiday tunes are filled with romantic lyrics such as: "Tis the season for some loving, so I think you should give your love to me" and "Down for lovin' you'll be my drummer boy." This is the third year in a row that Ariana Grande has released at least one holiday track.The new album comes two years after Grande dropped her first holiday EP, "Christmas Kisses," which featured the singer covering Christmas hits such as "Santa Baby" and "Last Christmas." Then last year, the singer released her own Christmas hit, "Santa Tell Me," which peaked at No. 42 on the Billboard chart.

John Schneider and Tom Wopat's HOME FOR CHRISTMAS Album Out on Vinyl This MonthNovember 20

 John Schneider and Tom Wopat - the original stars of "The Dukes of Hazzard" - will release a special vinyl version of their acclaimed holiday album HOME FOR CHRISTMAS. The LP will be available on Friday, November 20 at TomWopat.com. They will celebrate the vinyl release with concerts on December 5 (John Schneider Studios in Holden, LA), December 16 (The Lyric Theatre in Stuart, FL) and December 20 (a Tom solo show at the Ringling Theater in Baraboo, WI). The CD is currently on sale in stores and via digital outlets such as iTunes and Amazon.com. When the album was originally released last year, it debuted on the Billboard "Traditional Jazz" chart at #10 and was named by Rolling Stone as one of the year's "10 Best Christmas Albums." The pair have performed in concert over the years, but HOME FOR CHRISTMAS marks their first full recording together. Mixing immediately recognizable Christmas standards with lesser-known holiday songs, the album combines a bright and brassy big band, lush strings, and rustic country sounds and laces it all together with humorous banter that reflects over three decades of friendship. HOME FOR CHRISTMAS is produced by David Finck with arrangements by John Oddo, Tedd Firth and Rob Mounsey. HOME FOR CHRISTMAS is a collection of swinging seasonable treats to get you ready for holiday cheer. "I think this is a fresh take on the Christmas album," says Tom. "Jazz fans and serious musicians will appreciate what we've done with theses tunes. Our arranger John Oddo has a true affinity for that classic 50s and 60s sound. He really nails it.Tedd Firth is a major talent and a creative voice. And, of course, I love singing with John Schneider. The timbre of our voices match, the harmonies blend so easily. Plus, he's a barrel of laughs." Schneider adds, "Tom and I really bring out the best in each other. We may not sound alike when we talk, but when we sing sometimes you can't tell us apart. In the studio, I put him first and he puts me first. If that's not friendship, I don't know what is."
The record opens with a warm, crystalline duet of "Christmas Time Is Here," followed by a smooth mid-tempo version of the beloved staple "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," which is highlighted by a deft call-and-response vocal arrangement. Their sizzling take on "Cool Yule" - written by famed "Tonight Show" host Steve Allen and memorably introduced by Louis Armstrong - has a distinctly retro flavor. "It's a particular favorite of mine," says John. "It has that great Rat Pack vibe that I never get to do." The wistful "I'll Be HOME FOR CHRISTMAS" is an emotional solo turn for Wopat, crooning over a plush bed of stirring strings. "It's such a gorgeous tune that I was inspired to do it" says Tom. "Tedd Firth's arrangement is beautiful and evocative of another era." John takes the spotlight in the charming "Even the Snow (Falls for You)" - one of those rare numbers that says "I love you" in a new and inventive way - by Chris Wallin, the noted Nashville songwriter who has penned #1 hits for Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney and Montgomery Gentry. The song "Johnny, It's Cold Outside" makes for a fine bromance, a wry and funny twist on Frank Loesser's classic. Tom muses, "It's such a clever song and one of my favorite duets of all time." He wrote the original alternate lyric himself. "The Secret of Christmas" - a tender ballad gorgeously rendered by John - was written by Sammy Cahn and JimmyVan Heusen. They were considered Frank Sinatra's personal songwriters, even though this number was introduced byBing Crosby. The song celebrates "not the things you do at Christmas time, but the Christmas things you do all year through." Tom takes on "Blue Xmas" - a brooding lament by jazz iconoclast Bob Dorough that demonstrates the dark side of that most wonderful time of year, enhanced by a melancholy dissonant horn arrangement. "Bob is a really cool cat and you hear it in his songs," says Tom. "I love how haunting our chart sounds." The infrequently performed "Holiday Season" - a joyous composition with an exciting rhythmic heft by Kay Thompson, the legendary doyenne of MGM's music department - was recommended by John Oddo, who himself worked with many of the girl singers of the golden age. Wopat and Schneider return to their country roots with a traditional take on "On a Quiet Christmas Morn," featuring a prominent fiddle part and vocal harmonies that are pure Americana. Tom discovered the writers - Robin and Linda Williams - at New York's Town Hall watching them perform on Garrison Keillor's "Prairie Home Companion." JOHN SCHNEIDER was 18 when he was cast as Bo Duke in the hit CBS television series "The Dukes of Hazzard." He has gone on to a wide-ranging and accomplished career on stage, in music and on screen. Recent TV appearances include "Glee," "Hot in Cleveland," "Smallville" (portraying Clark Kent's adoptive father for ten seasons), "CSI: Miami," "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" (with his real-life son Chasen), "Nip/Tuck," "Desperate Housewives" and hosting "Trick My What?" on Country Music Television. 1. Light This Party Up 
Rick Springfield’s latest musical effort is Rocket Science, his 18th studio album, which will be released on February 19 through Frontiers Music. Written largely with his longtime collaborator and former bass player Matt Bissonette, the album delivers the expertly crafted wide-ranging pop-rock songs Springfield is known for. “I wanted the album to be very open and electric — rock and roll with some country elements, and always with great hooks,” he says. The lyrics largely address matters of the heart with the irreverence, wit, and dark humor that has always permeated his work. “The songs usually start with titles for me,” Springfield says. “A title will catch my eye and inspire a lyric. Both Matt and I are happily married, but there’s some heartache on this one. You can’t just write about how everything is all good and bore people out of their minds. When different emotions come up, I just go with that. I don’t set out to write about anything in particular. I just look for something that feels true and that I can hopefully say in an interesting way.” While on a rare vacation with his wife in Tahiti, Springfield wrote the rollicking first single “Light This Party Up,” which he describes as “a song about redemption and how life sometimes feels like one long fall from grace.”
 He wrote “Down,” a song about disillusionment and commitment, with Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus while traveling on DeMarcus’ tour bus to Atlanta, where the two were filming an episode of Drop Dead Diva. “Jay came up with the title ‘Down’ and we were off to the races,” Springfield says. “By the time we were halfway to Nashville the melody and structure of the song were complete, as if by magic. I love it when that happens.” Written with Bissonette, “That One” has a vulnerability characteristic of Springfield’s most emotionally resonant songs. “Who of us hasn’t had some heartless lover crap on us and our tender feelings?” he says. “This song hits home for me both as the protagonist and the victim. I have been both the crapee and the craper, I’m ashamed to admit.” A dobro guitar lends down-home flair to the rock stomper “Miss Mayhem,” which Springfield wrote with The Hold Steady’s Tad Kubler. “Ah, Miss Mayhem,” he says. “We have all met her or him at some point in our romantic past. A burning hot, amazing-in-bed, beautiful/handsome, wack-job!” Songs like “Pay It Forward,” “Crowded Solitude,” and “We Connect” are imbued with a sense of spirituality that has been reflected in Springfield’s songwriting since his album Living in Oz. “I’ve been sneaking it in there since 1983,” he says.

Mai Agan’s Group Releases Sophomore Effort

Estonian bass player/composer Mai Agan, known for her work in a variety of genres, from pop to jazz, has released her second album with her jazz-fusion band, MaiGroup. Titled You, the album from the Estonian/Swedish group is filled with music dedicated to the people who have inspired Agan. The result is “Something magical,” as you’ll see in the video below. Sharon Robinson: Caffeine | Album Review
There is a planet in a parallel universe that listens only to Leonard Cohen songs. The citizens have never experienced greed, hunger, hatred, deceit and heartache except through Leonard. American Sharon Robinson, who has contributed much to the latterday creative re-emergence of Cohen, would fit right in. Indeed, her second album references Cohen’s recent work so much in both tone and narrative that you’re left wondering who actually influenced who. For those who like late-night music that smoulders sensually while simultaneously raking the embers, Caffeine does the job. Songs such as The Harder You Look For Love, The Storm In Your Eyes, Safe and A Fragile Love epitomise delicacy and grace.
