Duran Duran Releases B/W Video for “Pressure Off”

10/22

The official video for Duran Duran’s “Pressure Off” has been released. It features the band, joined by Janelle Monae and Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers, delivering a vibrant, energetic performance in sleek black-and-white.

Le Bon can still rock for a 90 y.o man. Quite impressive. wink

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

nice little ditty. didn't really hear Nile but its a cool track. it didn't derail my interest in the album.

on another note, Janelle is kinda thick too! Never seen her in form fitting pants b4, brothers out here playin', she needs to be wifed up! one fine woman there!

Yeah I think it was released in July, I thought it was (is) a great single and was suprised it didn't do anything on the radio/ the charts, it is such a uplifting and catchy fun song. Maybe now that the video is here the big promotional push will begin???

I'm glad the fellas finally put out a video for the single. I love their work, and as much as I love Janelle -- I have seen clips of the band doing this song live - without her but having the backup singers do the part. I hate to admit it, but I think the back-up singers are just as good - if not better - than Janelle on this tune. Plus, that "Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh" in the chorus is kinda lame. It's a cop-out and could have been better used as a time for Janelle to rap or something. It just needs more words - not "oh" repeated several times.

Hopefully the second single will be even better. I'm hoping it will be "Dancephobia" or "Butterfly Girl."

Simon Le Bon may not be an awesome poet, but as a lyricist he's deliberately cryptic and engaging. I trust sometime in the future he'll publish his memoirs.

I am very much aware of that. But, let's face it, most legacy acts don't sound current anymore when they come with new albums. Or when they try to sound current it often sounds forced /embarrassing.

I think with this particular single Duran Duran have found the sweet spot between their original sound and the production styles of today. With that funky Nile Rodgers rhythm guitar and the vocals of hip and young Janelle Monae this is a very catchy and uplifting song and I got really excited when I first heard it. To me the song screams 'radio hit'!

I think the video is really clever in hiding up the fact that the DD guys are in their 50's. All n all I think this is a great effort by the band and I think they deserve to score a big hit with this song.

I like DD, but some people might argue they are trying too hard to be current. It's funny that some older artists are criticized for following trends and being hip and trying to get a younger audience, but somehow DD is praised for doing the same thing. Different standards for different artists, I guess.

Why hide the fact they are in their 50's? Is getting older something to be ashamed of? They aren't going to convince anyone they are younger, because they are famous and everyone knows how old they are.

I don't think a hit is something that is deserved. Having a hit is very random. It either happens or it doesn't. I don't really think having a hit is something you should consciously aim for, but do what you feel at the time. I like them but they seem sort of contrived in their need to seek hits which is obviously not working.

Duran have often done what they felt like. After the success of the Wedding Album in 1993, they followed it up with Thank You which was an album of covers. Just following in the direction established by Ordinary World and Come UnDone would have guaranteed much greater success than an album of covers. Nobody wanted to hear Duran cover 911 is a Joke in 1995.

Eventhough I'm no fan of The Eagles of Death Metal, I hope Save a Prayer can chart well. That song is one of D2's most underrated.
