In my case, it's been so long that I really don't remember. I like a lot of music, but the last time an album really hit me... I dunno... Maybe somebody here knows something...

Well, I have to go way back to Amy Winehouse - Back to Black. Sad, but true.

Not to say that I haven't bought a few really good albums, but BTB blew me away.

Prince: Dirty Mind.
I've not been a Prince fan all that long, so when I heard this, start to finish, I went "Wow". It's just so good. Completely unlike the music I was raised on.

Non Prince - D'angelo: Black Messiah.
I've always loved D'Angelo. Well, ever since THAT video. Even though I was too young to be having those kind of thoughts wink
I used to 'borrow' my sisters Voodoo album and just listen to Untitled on repeat. But the first time I listened to one of his albums , and not just one song from Voodoo, was Black Messiah. Again, just so different from anything I hear on MTV.

I don't really get into like instrumental/jam music but I was blown away by "Awake" by Tycho.

'Tusk' by Fleetwood Mac: a meandering and completely incoherent album of twenty songs, only two of which break the five-minute mark. It shouldn't work. It should be boring. But somehow it manages to be brilliant.

i don't think i've heard an album that made me go "i haven't heard anything like this...."
since i was 20.

but a few albums of the past two years that i absolutely adore, eventhough i've become

quite jaded in my music listening and don't listen to a lot of 'new' stuff:

kamasi washington - the epic

nicolas jaar - pomegranates

beck - morning phase

sufjan stevens - carrie & lowell

albums from the past that i love most of all usually sound like they create a world of
sound all their own. my top 20something (excluding prince) probably looks a bit like
this on any given day:

tori amos - from the choirgirl hotel

joni mitchell - blue
new order - technique
miles davis - agartha / pangaea
portishead - portishead

U2 - achtung baby

maxwell - embrya

charles mingus - the black saint & the sinner lady

radiohead - amnesiac
rem - monster

nick cave & the bad seeds - the boatman's call
the beatles - revolver

alva noto + ryuichi sakamoto - insen
tori amos - boys for pele
tricky - maxinquaye

depech mode - songs of faith and devotion

chad vangaalen - soft airplane
eurythmics - savage
burial - untrue
pet shop boys - behaviour

nine inch nais - the fragile
future sound of london - dead cities
beck - sea change
radiohead - in rainbows
windmill - puddle city racing lights

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Great feelgood album.

Yes! This one was tight also Brand New Machine from Chase & Status was a nice collection of songs, completely unexpected considering the source.

That's really difficult to say. But, since 2000, a handful of albums come to mind in the "haven't heard anything quite like this" category:

Jazzanova -- In Between

The Stepkids -- The Stepkids

Madvillain -- Madvillainy

Van Hunt -- What Were You Hoping For?

Hiatus Kaiyote -- Choose Your Weapon

Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Props will be withheld until the showing and proving has commenced. -- Aaron McGruder
