Whitney Houston in heaven. Very not pc, warning. lol.

This will offend some people who may not find this at all funny. I thought it was. It's an offhanded tribute, I guess, but quite funny, if you have an open mind.

Wow.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

Clever, but you shouldn't make fun of other's tragedy that led to their deaths, it's heartless and morbid.

I liked it and thought it was very funny. It's great that MJ seemed to be in charge and you can tell they are all waiting for Prince and Madonna.

.

I love how they threw in the Paul is dead hoax. It was believed in 1967 Paul MacCartney died and he was replaced by a double, all sorts of conspiracy theories abound.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Yeah, I liked the McCartney joke too, best part of the video. And I hope they'll be waiting for Prince and Madge for a looooong time. wink

I really don't see why. Even if my personal favourites Marvin Gaye and James Brown were in it, I would still find it funny. Maybe even more!

Okay I kind of laughed when she starts singing, it was so dumb and random. I expected it to be so much meaner.

It's terrible biggrin but I gotta admit,I laughed at one part....the part where Whitney arrives and Amy Winehouse says "she'd better not take my drugs!"....lol....

Yes, it is.

It is akin to idolatry because her remonstration could be interpreted as stemming from
some sort of desire to not offend the earthly departed, but to not offend cherished ce-
lebrities, who purveyors and purchasers of pop have turned into idols.

And I have a healthy yet irreverent sense of humor, so I found this to be amusing; there
is no person on this earth who shouldn't be made fun of, good naturedly, of course.

In other words, our society props up celebrities, especially musicians, actors, and other enter-
tainers, as people who should be revered and never made fun of, even if they met their demise
under situations where a "normal" individual in society would be scorned.

For example, we make fun of people addicted to cocaine, i.e., "coke-heads." And if a cocaine
addict dies by overdosing, we'll joke: "Cocaine is a helluva drug!" But let a famous singer die
of a cocaine overdose, and we'll turn on the (fake ass) reverence and respect and speak in
hushed tones and dare not make of the dearly departed. Why? Simply because the famous
singer was a famous singer, i.e., an idol.

Well, I don't buy into that like this board does whenever a famous musician dies. If I'm going
to make fun of the coke-head, I'ma make fun of Whitney Houston too, who doesn't deserve
my deep "thou'shall not make fun of her" respect just because she was a celebrity, as the coke-
head doesn't deserve my scorn just because he was not a celebrity. I'm an equal opportunity
ridiculer!!!!

It's always in poor taste when the person, idol or not, has passed on.

Ah, okay, I see what you (duccichucka) mean now. But...that has always been a part of rock & roll. As soon as somebody is famous, everything (s)he does,, is automatically cool. Keith Richards used to be known as "the most elegantly wasted human being" while there really is nothing elegant about being a junkie. Keith survived, good for him, others, sadly, didn't. And like I said, I agree that it's okay to make jokes about that and this one was funny. Is it poor taste? Well, poor taste can make for some good jokes!

Why? What is it about death that requires me to stop being human? What is it about
"passing on" that means we have to be reverential? Why are we only respectful when
someone dies (mostly loved ones or celebrities), but when the uncelebrated pass, no
one gives two shits about them, or we treat the living uncelebrants with irrelevance?

You're making this a matter of taste, which is subjective. I'm pointing out the hypocrisy
of people treating celebrities with respect when they pass and treating an uncelebrated
person's death with indifference or apathy.

I just wrote a poem and posted it about a friend of mine who passed, not disprespectful, but real and in honor of her REAL life. Some people don't get it and think I should have posted some hallmark greeting card about her. SHE would not have appreciated that. This really has nothing to do with the post, but your statement about treating an uncelebrated person's death with indifference or apathy. A hallmark greeting card scenario = that to me. confused

Excellent points; I'd add that poor taste for one person could taste absolutely delicious for
another.

The argument here seems to be that we are being disrespectful because we find amusement
in making fun of dead celebs. I say, "fuck off." I'm not a mean or cruel person: I just happen
to find morbid and irreverent humor funny...sometimes. Here? It's very amusing. Schaden-
freude is a very natural response in human nature, as long as there is some whit of guilt.
