DESTINY ALBUM THE JACKSONS

What are you thoughts about this wonderful and so criminally underrated album?

It's a wonderful piece of music, very mature with a very folky and thoughtful lyrics.

The very uptempo songs and the very personal ones like the folky Destiny, the beautiful

kind of prophecy Bless His Soul and the sad tellling about loneliness That's What You Get

of course the love ballad Push Me Away and the uptempo Shake Your Body, the wonderful

Blame It On The Boogie and Things I Do for You.

Great album, the album where the Jacksons came togheter at last. Unfortunately so underrated.

Been listening to "Destiny" many times over the past week as well as bumping "That's What You Get For Being Polite" for the first time in a while. I can say I appreciate them much more than I originally did.

The Jacksons catalog in itself is overlooked (not so much underrated as overlooked) but Destiny is the one album in their discography that receives the most praise. Personally, as an album I prefer the even more overlooked and upbeat Triumph.

Destiny is very well produced but the production isn't as slick nor does the vibe of the album and most of its songs stick to your bones like those of its successor, a criminally overlooked (even at the time) album. And even as someone who likes Victory, I think the album would have been much better had it combined the strengths of Destiny (songwriting) and Triumph (production) to create a project that lived up to the hype surrounding it.

In my opinion, this is the Jacksons best album. One superb song after another music and it contains their funkiest jam ever,"Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)".

I prefer Triumph as well, due to the slicker production and more uptempo material. Destiny sounds a bit too much like it was built around Shake Your Body, although it's still an excellent album.

I'm pretty sure Jermaine had nothing to do with it. razz Unless you count this

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I love it, especially the big hit singles and Push me away. But still feel that The Jacksons is more under rated and of course Triumph, which is my favourite Jacksons album (Besides all of Michael Jackson's solo music!!!!)

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I think Destiny has better songs. There's not a weak song anywhere on that album.

On Triumph,my favorite song is "Walk Right Now",but I don't think the other tunes are as good. One of the tracks is a rip-off of MJ's "Get On The Floor" lol "Heartbreak Hotel" is OK,but the lyrics are silly.

Not a weak song on Triumph either. "Walk Right Now" is hot but to me, is actually one of the comparatively weaker songs on the album (second to "Wondering Who" which is still a good song).

I must be crazy (you'd be right if you think so) but I'm not hearing the similarities between "Everybody" and "Get on the Floor".

My favorite album by the Jacksons. My cousin found the cassette underneath the blechers after school and sold it to me for 50 cents.

The underrated jam on this one is All Night Dancin'. That one always gets me moving. Especially that buildup toward the end and the finish. Yes, Lawd.

As I say, they're both excellent albums. Triumph has more of my personal favourite Jacksons tracks, though. Can You Feel It can't help but get me pumped up (especially after seeing the brothers in their post-Michael iteration in 2013/14), Your Ways really takes me places, Lovely One and Walk Right Now are great post-disco uptempo numbers, Heartbreak Hotel is one of MJ's finest 'solo' songs outside his solo albums, and I even love Jackie's funky solo turn on Wondering Who. :-D

Giving it another spin now.

Funny how,on this site,we're always comparing those two albums biggrin I think their self-titled 1976 album is very good, too.Working with Gamble and Huff was a smart move for them.

The Jacksons is both underrated and overlooked.

Very good album. If it weren't for the success of this release, I'd hate to think what would have become of the brothers.

I bet Motown was pissed, though smile They leave that label, sign with Epic, and release one of their greatest albums there.

All these, plus Dreamer and Style of Life. No love for the Going Places album, though? While definitely not as good as the other three albums mentioned, I think it has some standout tracks: Find Me a Girl, Different Kind of Lady and Even Though You're Gone.
