Is DAngelo becoming the new Prince now?

Or is he just not selling out and staying authentic to real music while still being innovative and brave enough to do new things (in light of what Prince is doing - or not doing - now)?

nobody will ever be the new Prince, and I say that with confidence, even after just listening to New Power Soul.

Well, since D'Angelo has been around for 20 years, I don't thing we can call him new anything. I think he's established his own sound. However, he isn't the most prolific cat.

I think he's proven his talents. However, I want him to stop mummbling on record.

Nope, never be another Prince. But D' is good and managed to create his own sound that has influenced a lot of artist that came after him. Someone stated above they wish he'd stop mumbling. I've become cool with his mumbling. It's apart of who he is. Very soulful.

No, he can not.

This board's primary objective is to see who discovers the next Prince.

It is a compelling show when he has Jesse Johnson in the band playing liv - I would rather see them than 3rdeyegirl if I was paying money.

What makes you think Miguel, the child of a Mexican-American father and an African-American mother, is an "anchor baby"? Would you expound on that, please?

I think Miguel is the closest to Prince, but give me DAngelo's stellar band over £rdeye girl anyday.

D'Angelo is a very talented contributor to R&B and funk , in contrast to Prince, who is a fascinating once-in-a-generation visionary artist.

When D'angelo sell over 100 million albums, win 7 Grammys, a Golden Globe, an Academy Award, enshrined in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, play rock/jazz fusion/funk/soul/gospel/country and pop music, revolutionize pop and contmporary Black music over several times over and fashion, D'angelo still wouldn't be in Prince's range. Prince is never scared to try new ideas: sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. No artist past or present can be the "new Prince", just like folks can't be the new "Jimi Hendrix", "Frank Zappa", "George Clinton" etc. D'angelo is a great soul musician. Let him forge his own path.
