2016 Grammy Predictions: nominations coming in dec

Eligibility for the upcoming 2016 Grammy Awards has closed (for albums going to be released by September 30th), so that means we already know the most of the songs and albums that will go on to win trophies this coming February. So, what’s going to be nominated? There are quite a few titles and artists that are worthy of the honor, but here are a select few that made such splashes in the past year, they are likely to hear their names called in December when the Recording Academy announces the nominees.

Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

Since this wasn't posted in the Prince:Music forum, I'm assuming Prince isn't one of those 7 artists?

Prince's song in tribute to Baltimore will probably get nominated in the "traditional" category...

You bet, and there might be nominations from "HITNRUN" too. Heck, are AOA and PlectrumElectrum eligible this year, too? Prince could have a handful of nominations.

Nominations for the 58th Annual Grammys to be Announced Dec. 7

The Recording Academy's annual screening committee meetings—where more than 200 industry experts organize all Grammy entries into 83 categories and 30 fields—have come to a close. The first round of ballots of been mailed to NARAS voting members, and the official nominations are set to be announced 12/7.

"With such a high volume of entries, the awards process requires a lot of energy," announced SVP Awards Bill Freimuth. "But music makers put their hearts and souls into these recordings, so it’s important to respect that work by giving each entry the time and consideration it deserves to make sure it’s presented to voters in the right context on the first ballot."

Final-round ballots will be due 1/15, and the 58th annual awards show will once again take place at L.A.'s Staples Center on 2/15, which marks its first Monday telecast in history. That's certainly one way to start the work week: gowns in gridlock.
