Unsung: Al B. Sure! Anybody Watch?

-

I didn't. Hopefully I can catch the full episode online in the next few days. Al wasn't my favorite singer back then but he was always my 2nd favorite producer from the New Jack Swing era behind Teddy Riley.

Here's all I could find....

Didn't think Kyle West actually existed until the picture shown in the second link I posted. I always thought Kyle West was a fictional character or something. Probably took too many notes from Prince and all of his names. lol

I watched it

I must say, that In Effect Mode was the bomb during the spring/summer of 88...all the cats were rockin it. That was one of the best debut albums ever, still have the original CD and cassettes to this day

lowkey

I watched, i love Al B. still to this day. I didnt know he wrote 'forever my lady', and i knew he did some writing/producing but i didnt know to what extent. Im glad he's doing well, i follow him on ig and he is such a nice humble man.

I watched it. I think a lot of people didn't realize he wrote/co-wrote a lot of Jodeci's first album. He and Kyle West were the real deal when it came to producing.

They produced a lot of songs on Tevin Campbell's first album. Anybody notice that "Right Now" and Tevin's "Alone With You" are the same basic song structure?

I always liked "Can't Have My Man" he wrote for Alyson William too.

His debut album is excellent.I was rockin' that cassette tape all throughout 1988 lol music

but his 1991 follow-up album,Private Times And The Whole 9,was a huge disappointment. It's a bloated,over-long album with only a few truly good songs.I lost interest after that,as did most people.

I'll check out his Unsung episode.

Hell I was surprised he had later number one hits after the first album. I had no idea

Misunderstanding went number 1 eek

I don't even remembering it getting that much play. I was surprised Right Now went number one

too even though I do remember that getting more airplay.

I have to check it out. I'm not a huge Al B. Sure fan but of course, love some of his earlier songs. Aren't he and Christopher Williams cousins or something? Regardless, we all know Christopher was the hands down better singer. music

I wonder if Teddy Riley will have anything to say about that intro that named him the "King of New Jack Swing". lol

I attended that Heartbreak tour with AlBSure opening for Bobby Brown & New Edition. I stood right next to his "VERY" "GOOD" friend Mike Tyson. Seeing Bobby earlier this year brought back so many memories. Those were the days.

To me Al B only had ONE hit album his debut "In Effect Mode". That is when lightskin dudes was in. biggrin

Yes, they are...

I bought Al's debut album and I assumed greater things were head but Al was kinda a one hit album wonder.

I always thought Al B's singing on Oprah's show ( Al sounded horrible) kinda put a stamp on his career, THE END. I said in a thread - when I 1st joined the org- those matching blue jean jack and pants combo... NO. Somebody should have pulled brotha man aside and told him, you don't ever, ever ever, never wear the same color jean jacket with jean pants. BIG fashion faux pas. lol

^ falloff mess with me... but that's the first thing I though about jacket and jean set... Gymboree matching set. lol

Seriously, I thought Al's recorded voice was helped with studio touch up here and there. He can't sing, he doesn't sing well live (having heard him)... Oprah show only reinforced that belief. One album wonder.

Keith Sweat songs always had great music.. beats and hooks. Keith sounds like he's trying to sing while someone is strangling him. A little of Sweat goes a looooooooooong way. Please, don't let brotha man sing a ballad. headache
