Joe Jackson hospitalized after stroke

I posted here because the story has nothing to do with music or his children.

Joe Jackson, the father of the late Michael Jackson and the patriarch of the musical family, has suffered a stroke in Brazil.

The talent manager was hospitalized Sunday afternoon at Sao Paulo's Albert Einstein hospital while celebrating his 87th birthday in South America, officials said.

Joe Jackson, the 87-year-old patriarch of the Jackson family, has suffered a stroke in Sao Paulo, Brazil, according to a local hospital.

Jermaine Jackson also took toTwitterto give an update fans on his father's status.

"Thank you for you & prayers for our father," he wrote. "Following a heart procedure, he remains in hospitals where he's doing "extremely well." Doctors say cardiac arrest followed a mini-stroke."

"Thankfully, brain scans show it's "not as bad as first feared. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the wonderful surgeons, doctors and nurses at the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo."

The hospital, reached early Monday by the Associated Press, said he is in their intensive care unit and is suffering from an irregular heartbeat.

In a statement posted Monday on his official website, Jackson thanked his supporters for their prayers and kind wishes, adding: "God willing, I should be able to make a quick recovery and travel back home soon."

AFP reported that he planned a $200,000 party for hundreds of guests, which included Samba dances, Brazilian decor and local fare.

A lavish birthday celebration is not fitting of a Jehovah's Witness.
Jackson matriarch Katherine must be the only JW.

Joe was never a Jehovah's Witness. I think he's Baptist.

Could you please change the title of this thread so everybody knows it's about Michael's father? I thought it was about the English musician Joe Jackson.

Who? lol

He's more than just Michael's father though. There's nine of them mofos including Janet. I could put J-5 father but that would leave her out.

Katherine and Rebbie are the only practicing Witnesses AFAIK. MJ was an ex witness, Jermaine is NOI, last I checked....possibly Janet too since her marriage. The rest of them aren't affiliated to my knowledge.

Joe's just an old heathen, lol

Totally understandable since this thread is in the Music: Non-Prince forum and the Jackson family father is not a musician.

I've rarely seen the singer Joe Jackson come up here, at least in this section, because I don't look at the others. Maybe associated acts sometimes. I can tell by the OP who it was about too.

I posted this thread in General Discussion for that reason but they moved it here anyway.

I have no idea why.

Like...I'm not all 'bout it 'bout it when it comes to physically discipline kids...but those were the times and lots more things were acceptable then. Mj loved his dad...and his man-child status makes his complaints of his father's discipline seem a little overstated, if that's accurate or inaccurate... I unno. Nowadays both parents are supposed to be bastions of love. Then...the mother was and dad slipped you bits of the cold hard world.

At the end of the day...its a judgement for his kids to make. His kids r largely successful. He did it by throwing them in one of the harshest gigs there is... But I'll be damned if they didn't make it outta broke ass Gary, IN in a time when monetary success for blacks wasn't common.

Though I don't agree either with discipline, one has to understand the context of it all and the bigger picture. And if mj forgave him despite talking in interviews, who are we to take on the family's burdens? Lot less stressful these days without the unhealthy obsession

Joe was physically and emotionally abusive to his children.....period. For some reason it seems like people want to sugar coat that because Joe is old. While I do respect him as a manager and appreciate him molding his children to superstardom, his methods were questionable and harmful psychologically in the long run. All of his children in some fashion were affected by his abuse. With that being said, I do wish him a speedy recovery and the best but just because he is old doesn't mean we should pretend he was the "greatest" dad in the world. I have no respect for someone who calls their child ugly or too black. I don't care who you are that is unacceptable for any parent or adult to say to a child. Again, I wish Joe the best but it sickens me that people are excusing his abusive child rearing. Lastly, Joe was in Brazil because the family is not close and hasnt been for decades. So lets not act like all the family members are not doing their own thing either. Joe is 87 and needs to slow down. He should just enjoy being a 87 year old man.

I don't agree either, but with someone like joe jackson, we can't think in black and white. It is what it is now and it's done, and very unfortunate too.

I understand that it is over and done with but I don't think people should be making excuses for his abusive child rearing just because he is old. I wish hi well too...but it is what it is.

he was just at jermaine's house with his family prior to going to brazil, the family may not be super close, i mean they are all grown with their own lives, but they are not all estranged from each other. joe's kids have all said they love him, they seem to have forgave him and trying to bond with him, if they can do that who am i to hate him.
