This is actually a great interview with Janet, I recommend watching all the parts of it.

The video above is where she speaks about Joe and her childhood. I'm only just watching it now for the first time and it fits this thread.

Really, I don't see how Michael spoke any differently to how Janet does about it. He always tried to justify it, he always apologized to Joe.

They both say things like 'well we wouldn't be here if he didn't...'
Janet says it pretty bluntly here... maybe Joe had a motive, the kids turned out successful, but she wouldn't go about it the way her father did. wink Michael said the same, he is where he is but he would never treat his kids the way Joe treated him.

[Edited 8/4/15 19:22pm]

You are correct, Michael said the same thing; except, Joe was much harder on Michael and his brothers than he was on Janet. She received the emotional coldness from him and she said he hit her one time. Michael received the emotional, psychological and physical discipline tactics. Joe used intimidation tactics with Michael, also. He was STILL trying to do that when he and the rest of the family( Janet included) were badgering, harassing and trying to intimidate Michael into doing a Jackson tour before he was murdered by Murray. This really was what the so-called "intervention"that Janet claimed, was all about. Btw, an "intervention" never took place. It was NEVER about an "addiction" it was about trying to FORCE Michael to tour with his brothers.

I agree. I think the older siblings especially J5 and Rebbie got it the hardest not to say Randy and Janet did not have it hard growing up but it was not nearly to the extent of the older siblings. The impact of Joes abuse on the older siblings was more harsher and detrimental. They were superstars before they were teens MJ and Marlon even Jermaine, Tito, Jackie were teens. Janet became a superstar as a young adult. Again, they all experienced abuse but they didn't experienced it on the same level or magnitude which is why Janet "appeared" more grounded. But she is not as grounded as the media likes to paint....

Or we can get their exact ages when they became a star. Based on these birthdates, Jackie born May 1951, Tito - Oct 1953, Jermaine Dec 1954, Marlon March 1957, Michael Aug 1958, Randy Oct 1961.

.

Signed Motown Contract - Aug 1968

Jackie, 17 years 3months

Tito, 14 years 10 months

Jermaine, 13 years 8 months

Marlon, 11 years 5 months

Michael, 9 years 11 months or 10 years 0 months (Depending on when in August it was signed)

.

But they were hardly stars then, as Motown kept them doing vocals for a year and grooming them- recording many unrealeased tracks which ended up on crappy re releases and best ofs. In 1968 they still has Marvin Gaye style crew cuts and even Jackie looked more teen than adult. Jermaine and Tito looked like they ahd entered puberty.

.

At the release of I want u back and Ed Sullivan show - November 1969

Jackie, 18 years 6months

Tito, 16y 1m

Jermaine 14y, 11m

Marlon 12y, 8m

Michael 11y, 3m (Although he was saying he was 9)

.

By this stage the 3 eldest were clearly gangly teenagers, Marlon and Michael still looked kidlike and Jackie was positively adult looking, it was about now they had started growing the afros.

.

When "I want you back was a #1 hit - January 1970

Jackie, 18y 8 mo

Tito, 16y 3m

Jermaine, 15y 1mo

Marlon 12y 10m

Michael, 11y 5mo

.

September 1970 when they had 4 #1 hits and started first tour

.

Jackie 19y 4m

Tito 16y, 11m

Jermaine 15y 9m

Marlon 13y 6m

Michael 12y 1m

.

Not much change in a year, but Jermaine was nearly as tall as Jackie now. Marlon and Michael both still kid like

.

January 1972, Michael hits with Rocking Robin, rest of group less famous and Tito about to marry

.

Jackie 20y 8mo

Tito 18y 3m

Jermaine 17y 1m

Marlon 14y 10m

Michael 13y 5m

.

Marlon and Michael still short and childlike - Jermaine now Jackie's height.

.

February 1974, Jermaine and Tito married, Jackie about 2, Randy joins group, Dancing machine a hit

Jackie 22y 9m

Tito 20y 4m

Jermaine 19y 2m

Marlon 16y 11m

Michael 15y 6m

Randy 12y 4m

.

By this stage Marlon and Michael finally look like teens, Randy only boyish looking Jackson. Jermaine the tallest. Marlon same height as Jackie. Tito and Michael still short.

.

August 1976 - Release of Jacksons, Jermaine left group, Jackie and Marlon also married

.

Jackie 25y 3m!!!

Tito 22y 10m

Marlon 19y 5m

Michael 18y 0m

Randy 14y 10m

.

No Jermaine now, but he is nearly 22 anyway, Randy entereing teens, others practicallya dults, Michael at his adult height and not liking puberty.

.

So as you can see it was only a partially kiddie group up to about 1972, with Michael and Marlon looking like kids, the rest were teenagers and in the case of Jackie, an adult. By 1975 they were pretty much an adult group.

And exact ages today to nearest month - August 2015

.

Joseph Walter Jackson born July 1928 (or 29 depending on who you believe) 86 or 87 years and 1 month

Katherine (Kattie B) Esther Jackson (Scruse/Screws) born May 1930, aged 85 years 3 months.

Married November 1949, when she was 3 months pregnant

.

Children

1. Maureen Reilette (Rebbie Jackson), born May 1950 age 65 years 3 months

2. Sigismund Esco (Jackie)born May 1951 age 64 years 3 months

3. Tariano (Or Toriano) Adaryll (Tito), born October 1953 age 61 years 10 months

4. Jeramine Lajuane (La Juan) (Jermaine) born Dec 1954 age 60 years 8 months

5. LaToya Yvonne May 1956 age 59 years 3 months

6a. Marlon David (They ditched the exotic Spanish names by this stage) Mar 1957 age 58 years 5 months

6b. Brandon Jackson (Still born Mar 1957) Marlon referenced him at Michael's funeral

7. Michael Joseph Jackson born Aug 1958, died June 2009 aged 50 years 10 months, age if he was alive 56 years 11 months - 57 years

8. Stephen Randall (Randy) Oct 1961 age 53 years 10 months

9. Damita Jo (Janet) May 1966 age 49 years 3 months.

.

Just shows you that they are all getting on and in this country Rebbie would have a Gold Card (Superannuation for pensioners) and Jackie would get his next year.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Michael Jackson outtakes

Which outtakes do you think were worth it for being included in offical releases?

For me: Cheater, Abortion Papers, Streetwalker, Price Of Fame and I'm So Blue were worth it to be in Bad album

Hot Street, Behind The Mask and Much Too Soon for Thriller

Monkey Business, Do You Know Where Your Children Are, Someone Put Your Hand out

Blue Gangsta, Slave For The Rythm, A Place With No Name, We've Had Enough, Hollywood Tonight, On The Line, Shout, Fall Again, She Was Loving Me, Xscape, The Way You Love Me and Another Day.Those for a new album

Add Loving you,Chicago to that list too biggrin

.

Look I agree, if there are more outtakes of that quality and the songs on Xscape, I am interested too, I have been all about Michael Jackson for two months now (I have been a fan for 35 of my 39 years) but lately just listening to everything, all the albums, Jackson5/Jackson stuff and anything related. I can't enough of his voice and his funkiness.

.

Damn Michael, I am starting to a get a Prince like obsession with him. I am even posting more on MJJ Community than Prince.org now.

For me Lovin You is a lovely song but not worth it to get an album release, and She Was Loving Me it's in fact Chicago.

If MJ were alive today, name somesongs that other artists are doing that might be his if he were around to do them. I'll start:

The Weeknd - "I Can't Feel My face"

While lyrically its unique to The Weeknd's style, the vocalarrangements and bass line are very much MJ sounding.

Chris Brown - "Fine China"

So close to an MJ track. Sooo close. I think Mike would want that one.

Ne-Yo - "Money Can't Buy"

Again, while lyrically, its Ne-Yo, I can clearly and easily picture Mike singing the vocal arrangements.

I'm not even gonna mention Timberlake. We see you and the rest of the sound poachers, Justin. We see you.

Any to add? I was thinking post MJ R.I.P. songs, not songs that he literally could have done while he was alive.

The posthumus albums, especially Xscape have an adventage since they were released while Spotify already existed and new releases always get more attention naturally.

Xscape 138,080,835
Michael album (without the Cascio songs) 48,476,347

No childhood songs, no Jackson 5 or Jacksons songs were counted, only MJ's adult career. I also did not count remixes, eg. the Immortal album versions (except for the new versions on Xscape).

Michael's catalog is doing very strongly on streaming services, including Spotify. On Spotify you wil

Amazing stuff biggrin

.

Thanks for doing it, I am sure MJ would be amazed at how many people are digging him and his music. It's proof that great music will never die and MJ must have a whole new generation of fans now. Michael Jackson's music is truly immortal, it is like everyone of my favourite songs is in the 8 or 9 figure bracket. Glad to see my Absolute fave TWYMMF is at #9, that to me is the epic MJ power love ballad.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Some of you have already heard Seeing Voices, it leaked almost a month ago. Beautiful song, a kind of Hollywood old fashion soundtrack wit big chorus and orchestra arrangements

Shocking how low "Behind The Mask" is on that list... out of all the posthumous tracks that its the most b-side sounding, like it was ready to roll with little touchup

Correct me if I am wrong, but artist get very little for streaming services. So like MJ would have made much more if he got that many plays on the radio(at least in the old days) verses Spotify.

But he isn't alive. If anything, his legacy on physical media could be used to parallel the differences in revenue generated from streaming plays, if these works are as influential and essential as many claim.

I say it's a 50/50 shot it happens, and if it did, he'll be forced or coerced to water it down some king of way

it was so awesome to see this tour live

I just came across this megamix of the songs from Xscape while I was searching for a megamix I made years ago (couldn't find it, I'll have to remake it lol) and was pretty floored by it. It sounds a bit muddy and off at parts but its really good! If you have 17 minutes to kill, definitely give it a whirl haha. A lot of the little tidbits and sounds that were added to these songs sound like the sorta stuff Michael would've put in them if he were still around and wanted to do these songs live.
