Partnership between the Vandross estate, Hidden Beach Experiences & longtime collaborator Marcus Miller will take musical narrative to 15 major markets.

The Luther Vandross estate is partnering with Hidden Beach Experiences and Marcus Miller to present The Power of Love Experience -- A Tribute to the Life of Luther Vandross. Wednesday (July 1) marks the 10th anniversary of the singer/songwriter/producer’s death in 2005 of a heart attack.

The Power of Love Experience will tour 15 major markets across the U.S., starting in the first quarter of 2016. Described as a semi-biographical story in song, the musical narrative -- named after Vandross’ 1991 No. 1 R&B hit “Power of Love/Love Power” -- will feature star talent led by Miller, who was Vandross’ longtime musical director, co-songwriter and co-producer.

Additional components will include the creation of a mobile museum displaying memorabilia, archival images and video footage. Hidden Beach Experiences, in association with the Vandross Estate, will also establish The Vandross Award for vocal excellence. The award -- honoring the late singer’s commitment to vocal performance and showmanship -- will be presented to established as well as emerging artists.

According to Hidden Beach Experiences CEO Steve McKeever, The Power of Love will be the first in a series of events staged under the company’s new division, Guardians of Soul. The goal: to preserve and celebrate the legacies of R&B, soul and jazz icons. The division’s first project, in association with the Vandross Estate, involved activities surrounding Vandross’ posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2014.

“With current headlines reminding us that our nation still has deep wounds in need of healing,” said McKeever in a statement. “We cannot think of a more appropriate time to celebrate the power of love -- analogous with the life and legacy of Luther Vandross.”

“My time with Luther was perhaps my most fulfilling professionally and personally,” added Miller. “His power and musical prowess couldn’t be denied.”

Nicknamed “The Velvet Voice,” Vandross wrote and sang commercial jingles and was the lead singer for such studio groups as Change and Charme. As a producer, he worked Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross, among others. Vandross scored the first of seven No. 1 R&B hits as a solo artist in 1981 with “Never Too Much.” Vandross’ total of eight Grammy Awards includes song of the year in 2004 for “Dance With My Father,” co-written with Richard Marx.

interesting to see that Hidden Beach (the same label Jill Scott had to sue) is now involved with his Estate, but count me in for this.

Don't be so quick to say you'll catch the Tribute Concert...We havent heard the lineup yet and it's not like the promoters are working with tons of Cash...The line-up could be the Ladies from TV1's R&B Divas...

It'll be interesting to see how they give the award out. It should be instantly respected given Luther's history. It might help change the conversation given all the blue eyed 'swagger jacking'

Slightly off-topic, but could Dance With My Father, his last album, be any better? There are like, one or two fillers, the rest are solid singles. Amazing album. And even those one or two fillers are enjoyable songs.

It ain't Luther. So, no.
