a one-hit wonder? hmmm nah,Cheryl has had several hits....most of these tunes weren't major hits, but R&B audiences are familiar with 'em....

"Got To Be Real" (1979)

"Star Love" (1979)

"Shake It Up Tonight" (1981)

"In The Night" (1981)

"Instant Love" (1982)

"If This World Were Mine" with Luther Vandross (1982)

"Encore" (1983)

"New Dress" (1987)

"Encore" is a classic headbang one of Jam and Lewis' funkiest productions

You know and I know... "Got To Be Real" was the begining and the Encore of Cheryl's music career. lol I love the woman but less get real and keep it reall. Unless you are fans like we are, most folks couldn't recall any of the songs you've listed above excep,t here 1st hit single.

You better believe it, but for all the wrong reasons. No one's talking about their music. confused

What's the to talk about?

the one hit wonder....

vs

the chick who' basically recorded the same damn song over and over.

lol

Cheryl Lynn was no One hit wonder hmph!

I can't believe not many folks talk about Shake It Up Tonight.

I saw her on tour with Maze and the Commodores(Lionel's last stint) and

she bought the house down with that one.

I used to like the Jesse Johnson produced Whatever It Takes.

"Got To Be Real" is her only pop top 20 hit (#12.) Nothing else hit the top 40. She had three song to chart between 60-70.

On the R&B side, five top 10 hits including two #1's. All but three others were outside the top 20 on the R&B charts. Only seven top 25 R&B hits.

I guess that's about mid level success.

Right. Cheryl Lynn is far from a one hit wonder. I know there are a lot of people out here who think just because a song was successful on the R&B side and not on the Pop side, then it doesn't count. And we know what that's all about. Along with "Real" and Encore", "If This World Were Mine" is a classic at R&B radio and still remains in heavy rotation to this day.

So if Cheryl was a one hit wonder, since Stephanie Mills and Teena Marie only had one song that were bonafide Pop hits, they were one hit wonders, too and we all know that's a lie. Frankey Beverly and Maze, well I guess they were a total flop since they were huge on the R&B side but received ZERO support at Pop radio and had ZERO charting Top 20 singles on the Pop side. Melba Moore is another who was huge on the R&B side but received no support on the Pop end. The list can go on and on of artists who are legendary on the R&B side but Pop audiences know very little, if anything, about them. Doesn't make them or their successes any less relevant.

But, back to the original topic. I don't know if I'm believing this. Cheryl Lynn is a woman who hasn't had a hit song on the charts since 1989 while Anita had several hits in the 90's so I'm not sure why Cheryl would even start an arguement and bring up her catalog to support whatever she is trying to prove. And it's suspect that Anita is not responding. Although I really don't think that's Anita's style to fight on twitter. Not that she's against fighting lol but to do it like teenage girls on social media? I don't know. I'm just not buying this.

Fantasy by Cheryl Lynn is my fave song by her. She performed it on that soul train ep she did with Luther, which might be my fave Soul Train ep ever.

Didn't Cheryl have more than one duet with Luther?

So I just checked out Lynn's twitter page and although I don't know a thing about twitter, it looks like the posts are legite. broken The only interesting tidbit I saw on the page is where she re-tweeting something from Betty Wright saying there is a new album being released with Wright, Meli'sa Morgan and Miki Howard as featured performers. Now THATS some great news right there! biggrin

When I read that I almost wet myself. Is Cheryl an alcololic? lol But,, she did say she's loves the fact Rhianna is always taking risks, she didn't say anything about her music. lol I don't know. It seems like Cheryl has a lot of extra time on her hands with all of those tweets she's posting. I'm with Jennifer. Cheryl, stop being a drama queen, move on and get a life! Anita not thinking about you. She's at home admiring her Grammys and mutli- platinum RIAA certifications. That's what I want to say to her but I don't know how to post on twitter. biggrin

Prince needs to call Miss Anita back up and pull them trax back out. He's good at that adult contemporary r&b noodling around and could even bring some edge to it. Call her up prince...get her all sweaty and hot and bothered behind that mic and help her lay some magic down. If anyone can summon the powers of Miss Anita's soulful couldron...its u Prince. The world needs another soultry Anita record and ONLY u can bring it forth.

http://rollingout.com/mus...ita-baker/

Sterling Johnson of Cheryl Lynn Productions reached out to rolling out today to deny there’s a beef between Anita Baker and Cheryl Lynn who have “met casually” in the past. Lynn’s management asserts the “Got to be Real” singer does not have a Twitter or Facebook account. The hitmaker who made dance music in the 70s and early ’80s prefers “to pick up the phone and call her friends,” Johnson comments. Management also says they’ve come across this issue before and have tried to stop the perpetrator of the fake social media accounts, but it has been to no avail.

Twitter can stop the impostor.... They've done it before...Myabe Cheryl has to open a certified Twitter account first, but she not have to do so for Twitter to close that one.

H.H. broke it down, the end. It seemed too hilarious to be true, and it was.
Cheryl Lynn (public persona) doesn't lend to these type of pettiness.

But one good thang came out of this....

Anita Baker, is forever known in my mom's home as, the moose whisperer.

I've also read Cheryl's Tweets in the past and she's always been positive...I don't know why she went-in on Anita...Anita BLOCKED OL'girl..LOL.....All Celebs don't actually Tweet, but I'm glad Anita & Cheryl really do Tweet when they find the time...You can tell when a Celebs (Assistant) does all the Tweeting, it's kind'of Generic or robotic, not real....
