This is horrible, at only 60. Just posted in past week about how we are so in need of the Brothers Johnson to return with a new album. Wonder what was cause of death. Here is confirmation but does not indicate what happened to him.

Look Out for #1 was one of the best debut albums EVER. Only wish the long version of Get the Funk Out Ma Face was on it.

Q speaks about his friend:

Louis "Thunderthumbs" Johnson was one of the greatest bass players to ever pick up the instrument. As a member of the Brothers Johnson we shared decades of magical times working together in the studio and touring the world. From my albums "Body Heat" and "Mellow Madness", to their platinum albums "Look Out for #1," "Right On Time," "Blam," and "Light Up The Night," which I produced, to Michael's solo debut "Off the Wall," I considered Louis a core member of my production team. He was a dear and beloved friend and brother. I will miss "Boot's" presence and joy of life everyday. ‪#‎RIPLouisJohnson‬

I am stunned to say the least as well as everyone. Just read this on Soul Tracks.

I was listening to a lot of their songs on my MP3 player today listening to Louis

bass patterns. I always enjoyed listening to the Brothers Johnson music and

definitely inspired to play bass from Louis. Thunder Thumbs will definitely

be missed. RIP Louis Johnson

PS This news is definitely sentimental for me as the Blam album was the

first album I ever bought. I bought the album one summer in Charleston SC

where I spent summers with my grandparents. I have many memories of playing

this album at my grandparents house. My uncle initially turned me on to them

buying their debut album and the Right On Time albums.

Don't laugh at my funk

i wish you would stop using wiki as an legit source, its not... LOUIS never played on VANITY 6 that was all Prince and The Starr Company. He could have played on Vanity's solo stuff

If you are that irked correct Wiki, you can. wink They (Wiki) may get somethings wrong, but Wiki doesn't get everthing wrong. I looked at Vainty 6 side eye, I but since I know almost nothing about Prince or the bands he created or produce... I let it stand. Even so....

What I do know from my own record collection, the other names -minus Vanity6- are correct.

This is incredibly sad! I JUST watched Quincy Jones' Budokan Special from 1981 (VHS), on which Louis played. I also love most of the Brothers Johnson albums, besides the obvious smashes I also love the hidden gems like "Q" or "Tomorrow" (the instrumental).

He even played on what I consider the best funk-jazz album of all time, Herbie Hancock's Manchild from 1975.

Paul Jackson plays also on there, on which track(s) did Louis Johnson play? (It's probably some track with slap bass, but I don't remember even though I'm a Herbie geek...)
