I think Janet invented masculine dancing in women. To me her style was always "tomboy" dancing. Very hard and sharp. She rarely looks feminine when she dances.

Ciara on the other hand is a freestyle street dancer. Isn't that the definition of fluid. That matrix move she does takes a lot of flexibility and fluidity just to pull off on its own.

Good point. That matrix move damn sure ain't as easy as it looks! lol

I think Janet is the better technical dancer but in terms of free style I think Ciara has the edge.

Janet's technical style is the selling point. It was different when it was introduced. It looks awesome. And when someone who hasn't gone through choreography boot camp her whole career attempts it (Ciara) they wind up looking like an amatuer.

Plus we left out the most important factor; Iconic dance moves. It's like when people try MJ's kick move. Some do it very well (Chris Brown) but most need not try. It's just not what we want to see. We'd never be happy with it.

Thanks, well said! This is why I don't think it is fair to call Ciara a bad dancer! Because to be honest I am not to sure if Janet could do those complicated street moves Ciara does. Maybe off the fifth try she might could but at first attempt she probably would have a hard time herself.

i think ciara is a great dancer, ive never heard anybody call her bad.you gotta remember the style of music ciara was doing, she was doing that crunk&b stuff, that style of dance wouldnt work with janet's music. janet's rhythm nation crew were street dancers, she did anthony's stuff with ease.we gotta remember the different time periods and the style that was out at the time, is janet gonna do the matrix at 40? um no, but could she have done it at 25? i have no doubt she could have.

Most of Janets dancers over the years as well as her choreographers are trained dancers. I never said Janet couldnt do the matrix move. I said she probably would have a harder time learning it since she is more technical and never did moves such as that which requires more flexibility, fluidity and lower body strength.

Ive also seen Ciara do alot of mj's complicated foot work which I have never seen Janet do. Street dancers don't rely so much on choreography and can free style at the snap of a finger which I have also never seen Janet do. I am not knocking janet but those are some things I feel Ciara has over Janet.

the show was pretty good like it has always beem..but i Feel as if the BET Awards show much more respect to hip hop and rap,,dont get me wrong I love rap, but it seems like they only cater to just more rap artists..they have the BET Hip Hop Awards, well I guess when they have the Soul Train Awards they cater to true randb and soul music...the Lifetime Achievement segment was weak too me, even though they people who performed did a good job singing Smokey songs, he has more hits than that..i guess its the musical director of the show decision making..

Hip Hop dominates of the Black award shows these days.

It is probably the main reason that I stopped watching.

It bores me 2 tears.

I was so impressed the year Maxwell was on and I believe he participated in the Al Green tribute. Bring back the real singers and musicians and get rid of the lip-syncers.
