New Music From Bilal + Album News

After taking a trip to the surreal side of soul on 2013's aptly titled A Love Surreal, Bilal has come back down to earth on his new song, "Satellites."

This first taste of his soon-to-be-released collaborative album with producer Adrian Younge, In Another Life, finds Bilal bearing witness to our tumultuous times and basically asking Marvin Gaye's famous question, "What's going on?"

But here, over Younge's signature psychedelic soul production, Bilal is both a repentant participant and outsider observing humanity's strange, self-destructive ways from a distance.

Ethereal wah-wah guitars, almost funerary organs, and break beat-ready drums provide the perfect accompaniment for Bilal's musings and vocal gymnastics, which go from cooing to shrieking like an R&B Thom Yorke.

In Another Life is out June 30 on Purpose Music Group/eOne Music.

What a boring, sterile chord progression.

He's still my favorite singer in the game, however.

It's not terrible but it doesn't excite me like his earlier work did upon first listen. To this very day I can listen to "Soul Sista" and still jam to it like it was just released. Oh well, still love him anyway. Going to see him next month live, so I'm super excited!!! cool

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

His 1st cd was by far his best.

His first cd is really entertaining but it's hardly a cohesive artistic statement. It's really just a show-
case for his vocal prowess; Love For Sale is my favorite album. But yeah, 1st Born Second is really
good in a collection-of-singles-kinda way.

Yeah, you can certainly hear some of Prince's vocal influences on Bilal, but I wouldn't call him
his daddy.

Bilal is inimitable.

I have a hard time picking a favorite Bilal album. They're all quite different. I might have to go for A Love Surreal (?) though. It has depth beyond the others.

I'm all in for this. I don't really care for the track Satellite but Bilal always kinda grows on me. Airtight's Revenge and A Love Surreal are both interesting and very different from 1st Born Second. I hope he considers reworking some of the tracks on Love For Sale unreleased album. White Turn to Grey is s killer ballad.

I'm especially partial to "Little One'', which he dedicated to his Autistic son. My heart breaks into tiny pieces every time I hear it.

Last night I heard this new song by Bilal called "The Way You Are" I'm not sure if this is something off the new album or something old where he's being featured on someone else 's album. But I did like it.

He contributed vocals to "The Way You Are", on Zap Mama's 2009 album Recreation.

ok Thanx[/quote Just looked up this albums track listing. It has his usual number of tracks I think but a lot of songs are very short like 2, 2.5 to 3minutes.

I just got back home from attending the Bilal concert at the Birchmere.....man oh man...Bilal is such an energetic and superb performer!!!! The show was off the chain and there was never a dull moment. Bilal surely has the pipes...he was hitting them notes effortlessly and also his band was very tight. He mostly performed the bulk of his material from his new album, the encore set comprised mostly of material from the past couple of albums. The only song he performed from the first album was "Sometimes". He performed for nearly two hours...time and money well spent. I overheard some of the folks in attendance voicing their disappointment that he didn't perform "Soul Sista" at the end, but to me, since I'm more than familiar with his other work, I didn't mind it. I would surely recommend to see him live and in action. I'd definitely see him again. thumbs up!
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
