Also, demonic spiral cymbals? seriously... ? smh...

RE: John Blackwell: He had a trial spot in the band. He might have gone along for the first leg of the tour, but D didn't feel he'd have enough time to prepare sufficiently. See: This interview (~at 01:45:10)

Thanks for the link. Can´t wait to listen to that interview and hear what John has to say about it.

I have no idea why KCOOLMUZIQ finds the spiral cymbals demonic. I had never seen them before and quite liked their sound during the concert. Maybe he can elaborate on some possible hidden meaning or symbolism but as far as I´m concerned they are just interesting sounding instruments.

KoolEaze: No prob

Recordings are surfacing on youtube from the new leg. (They'll show up if you use youtube's search filter for vids uploaded in the past week). Here's my favorite so far, bar the flub at the Another Life transition.

From some snippets I've seen in instagram, Back to The Future now has it's own little synchronized dance segment too (can't find the link, will post when I find it). Keeping my eye out for a full clip.

Also, D's showing off some guitar chops near the end of Chicken Grease/What It Do. Unfortunately the clip gets cut off too early to see the whole thing.

rolleyes

I am not throwing shade or starting rumors! D'angelo is my second favorite artist under prince.

I never went into any detail about what happen with D & John! But it's a FACT that John was hurt over his ommision from D's band.

Also John played with the best musician on the PLANET prince.. John could pick up anything after that in ANY time frame.

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

No I did NOT! It's all there in the interview. John was not happy with his departure. He voiced his opinion about how he felt about the situation & D'angelo...I did NOT make any scandalous "incident" up DUDE!!!

Don't address me anymore or insinuate false things about me PERIOD!!mad

I caught the show in Kansas City last night. Impressive, to say the least. It's very nice to see D'Angelo in such good spirits. It seems that he has been to hell and back and has come out of it okay.

He looks like he's at peace with where he is now. I wonder if it's because "Black Messiah" got so much acclaim, but didn't cross over in a huge way.

The band was great! Everything was funked up big time. If you have the chance to go, take it! You won't regret it.

Wow!..... is all I can say. Did anyone watch his show last night? Let's just say he made me forget about the fact I had to miss the Prince concert.........and for a few hours plus some........Here is a review and link:

D’Angelo & The Vanguard
I am not at all mad that D’Angelo hit the stage at the This Tent almost 40 minutes late. I’m not mad that there was some minor sound bleed from Bassnectar’s nearby set. I’m not even mad he didn’t play “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” (unless he came back out for a second encore after we left after 3 a.m.—in which case, yes, I’m mad I missed that). That’s because from the moment the singer and his band The Vanguard appeared to their final note, they were in phenomenal form. You’d think a long delay would mean a shorter set time, but D’Angelo seemed like he was willing to stay onstage forever, making time for plenty of Black Messiah favorites like “Sugah Daddy,” “Ain’t That Easy,” “Back to the Future, Part II” and dedicated “1000 Deaths” to Freddie Gray, Michael Brown and “the fallen.” The whole time, he commanded his band with the energy and true funk of James Brown. So far, this one’s the Bonnaroo set to beat this weekend. —Bonnie Stiernberg
