Do any black people like Huey Lewis & The News?

I just got through listening to their 80s album "Sports"...and they're really not that bad.

and I'm a black person.

"Ray Parker Jr. liked them pretty well"...lol!....Huey is cool with me because he played harmonica with Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy in the 1970's.

I like a couple of songs. They were such a bay area fixture in the '80's especially with the Niners and they had a few hits.

I used to see Huey Lewis & The News videos on Video Soul, so I guess that is a yes. razz Bad Is Bad is one in paticular that was shown a lot.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

As far as pop songs go, "If This is It" is a fine piece of songwriting. I'm blackish, in case anyone cares. razz

Yep. More now than when they were super popular though. Mainly because they used to get played to death. I got sick of hearing them.

Anyway, recently i brought their greatest hits album, and it flowed pretty darn good.

Here's the thing about black folks and music. We can appreciate songs that are performed by "others", as long as the song has good rhythm, melody, has a memorable hook, and the singer has a decent voice. The person's voice doesn't have to be luther vandross smooth, but it can't be all nails on a chalkboard either.

Specifically about huey lewis and the news. They had elements of soul, blues, and jazz, so naturally they would appeal to some black folks. And they were a good pop band as well.

Anyway i guess i would say that just like everyone else, black folks enjoy all types of music. The color of the performer doesn't really matter. At least it shouldn't.

Of course this is all generally speaking.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

The OP is clearly sarcastic. I hope.
