Some of my musician friends (who are black) listen to and have respect for hard rock, heavy metal, alternative rock and radio friendly pop. They try to stay diverse.
Other black people I know ONLY listen to hip hop, club music and modern r&b. Nothing else.
Not saying one is better than the other but that's what I've observed.

I like Huey Lewis & The News, Phil Collins, Queen, The Beatles, The Cars, Van Halen, Guns N Roses, Eminem, Pat Benatar (if only for one song), Madonna, and Gaga has been warming up to me. I'm sure there's more but these are the ones I thought of off the top of my head. | |

A lot of my musician friends (black/white/hispanic) listen to a wide variety of music...jazz/funk/blues/classical/rock, etc.....It's cool because I as I mentioned before the black musicians will dig white artists from Alice In Chains to Joni Mitchell to The Beatles to Black Sabbath...(hell... my new favorite rock band is FARMIKOS)....and the white musicians I know love artists like Parliament, John Coltrane, Marvin Gaye, Duke Ellington, Public Enemy, etc.....I guess with musicians it's a diverse/respect/learning enviornment thing...good music is good music no matter who creates it.
