My most anticipated album of the year! From the Vega single to the short clips in the pledge videos. Everything I've heard has me really excited. Sounds like the pledge clips we hear a little bit of "Emotinal Criminal". "...Puddin'" is a seriously funky track that Van has played live before. Really looking forward to hearing an album version of it.
Here's in an early version of the song from back in 2007. I've heard a more developed version of the song before, as well an acoustic version which had an funky country touch to it. [Edited 3/14/15 0:02am]

He remains the most interesting (best?) songwriter in R&B and this is easily the only album I will

Correction. Agreed. Popular is my favorite album ever. I love it! What Were You Hoping is great as well. [Edited 3/19/15 21:17pm]

It's always been a mystery to me how he isn't more well known. He's my favorite artist, and in my opinion, the best out there right now. I think it series of things. He had a lot of creative deference with his label( dating back to his first two albums) He fought with the label for nearly 4 years on the first album. They wanted to shape him as something he didn't want to be. There was also some bad luck with the timing of the shelving of Popular. It coincided with fall of the music industry, Captiol Recoreds, and the economy as a whole. He ended being of victim of it all. It was a huge blow to his career at that point. Just finished a record, was prepping for it's release, then all sudden he doesn't have a recorded label, and the album he just made is gone, and he can't release it. Of course he then released the appropriately titled "Use in Case of an Emergency" and followed that with "What Were You Hoping For?". A fantastic album, but a pretty risky move from a bussiness point of few. I don't think a good portion of his casual fan base was ready for that. A lot of them had't heard from him since On The Jungle Floor. Although as a hardcore fan, I loved it! It's exctiting to see an artist like Van make that leap. And now it's been 4 years since he put out that album. But I have high hopes for this album. It sounds new and exciting! I can't wait for May 5th! [Edited 3/20/15 0:30am]

I agree about the songwriting part. I've always wondered why he wasn't writing with other artists too. [Edited 3/23/15 9:26am]
