I'm not quite sure what the point of your "side note" was. Of course, Beyonce is the star of the era, popular music currently revolves around her.

But she does not become a household name simply by "doing her job and going home." She must leverage her talents and output on several platforms to become that star. That's where marketing and media invariably intersect. As great as Prince was at his zenith, Cavallo, Ruffalo and Fargnoli helped make him a household name. Bey likewise has had good people around her to help her become a superstar. And she and her team have used their influence and leverage to great effect. There's nothing inherently wrong with that.

Let's not delude ourselves, though, and act as if Beyonce simply wants to perform her music and go home. She. is. Everywhere. And she's got a great team to help get her everywhere.

The point was to laugh at this weird, creepy, and repetitive conversation on this board about Beyoncé's alleged PR machine allegedly planting stories and paying news outlets to hype her up. That's ludicrous (and would be an incredible waste of money).

Okay, it's becoming clearer to me. Publicists "work" the media all the time. Same as politicians. Because they know the ultimate leverage in today's media is access to their clients. I agree that it makes little sense to pay-for-play with the media when it comes to Beyonce.

I'm aware that that is not how Beyoncé became a household name. I think we all are. But I'm speaking on what she's doing right now, as a household name. And that is doing her job, going home, and living her life. Think about it. When was the last time you saw a Beyoncé interview or commercial on TV?

She's constantly performing. She's always being covered on television. She's always given the stage for awards shows. She's at the point where she does not need to do interviews, but in the last year I saw her every week on HBO before the Sunday shows pumping her doc, and I know that she's been in ad campaigns for makeup (Revlon?), Pepsi and Toyota in the last year to year and a half. She's maximizing her endorsements at her peak. And recall that videos are essentially commercials for her albums, and she makes a ton of those. She's everywhere. Nice work if you can get it.

Well the allegation is that Parkwood Productions basically sits and plants stupid stories about Beyoncé moving to L.A., about to divorce her husband (?), not actually carrying her baby (?!?) etc... and that this is the only reason people pay attention to Beyoncé. Because of course, if a bunch of weirdos on a Prince message board don't like her, no one else can REALLY like her, they all have to be under media mind control neutral

Beyoncé performs on tour which I would say is part of her job (along with music videos, especially those released alongside an album) as a pop musician. It was actually her X10 concert specials that were on HBO, as well as the On the Run Tour, but none of that is terribly unusual (though X10 was an interesting format). I mean, Katy Perry put her concert documentary in theaters.

There haven't been any new L'Oreal commercials since mid-2013, so I think her professional relationship with them has come to an end. Beyoncé's lone Pepsi commercial this decade premiered one year and 11 months ago. The only thing you mentioned that emerged in the past year was the Toyota commercial, which I can't BELIEVE I hadn't seen as both a Beyoncé fan and a Toyota owner.

Basically what I'm saying is she isn't doing more than anybody else in her industry, probably less actually. I'd say someone like... Ariana Grande is just as prevalent, but nobody's complaining about her PR machine.

And exactly WHAT does that baseless and borderline homophobic generalization have to do with the discussion namepeace and I were having?

Unholyalliance

I don't really like Beyonce that much and I, really, dislike Kid Rock's music, but that comment smells bad. If he's, supposedly, not into her body type then so what? Different people find different things sexy and sexually attractive. Just because it's not to his taste doesn't invalidate anyone else's taste. He's basically saying, 'Unless I find it sexually attractive, it's not sexually attractice." No one cares about what he finds sexually attractive. Is it possible to comment on a female artists's music without bringing up her physical appearance?

His comment were almost valid, until he brought that comment up.

Also, about his comment. Notice how all the iconic songs he brought up were rock songs? Does he know of any iconic pop, dance, rap, and r&b songs? Better yet, does he even like any of them? Also, if he doesn't like them, does that mean that their iconic status is invalidated simply, because he doesn't like them? Also, notice that all of the one's he mentioned were done by white people with the exception of Prince. Also, isn't Sweet Home Alabama considered to be a pretty racist song? If not, it's been coopted by plenty of racists. Also, Lynard Skynard proudly donned the Confederate flag, before the last surviving member publicly denounced it like 3 years ago. Freak that and freak Kid Rock.

For the ones calling Kid racist, its obvious the analogy he made went right over some of ya'll heads. He has a bi-racial child so he is not racist. Maybe his analogy could have been worded better but I understood his point perfectly and I say this as a black woman. Once again, his point was when people who use her looks ("big butt") as the reason for her greatness as an artist, he retorts with what he prefers (big breasted white women)-meaning her looks are not a good enough reason for him to like her as an "artist" and then goes on to explain why because she has no "purple rain" or classics which IS true.

I think this is possibly the most sensible thing I've read in the entire thread.

Kid Rock is one of the smartest people in the music biz and even if you don't like him or his music, you can't really deny what he's saying here. Beyonce makes disposable music. And it's not even GREAT disposable music. She'll be remembered because she's a superstar but she hasn't created a body of work that people are going to rave about in another 20 years.

Agreed. I'm also inclined to think that her PR machine is behind a lot of the social media stuff. They probably create accounts to keep the buzz going. I wouldn't be surprised. Everything about this chick is contrived and fake.

Exactly. Being married to one of the richest men in entertainment business also is doing her favors.

And did she ever speak about the Kanye/Beck incident? There's a lot of rumors that it was staged.. and that she put him up to it. Free publicity.

I knew the fix was in when Time magazine named her the most influencial person on Earth. What a crock. I think he overexposes his wife and is forcing this concept of her being a "legend" down the throats of the average listener. There's nothing spectacular about Beyonce. She's a common pop star but she has a very powerful PR machine that is hyping her up to be the second coming of Christ for some reason. I still believe that her people create bogus accounts and flood social media with threads about her just to keep her relevant. I seriously doubt people think she is truly that much of an amazing person. It's all smoke and mirrors.

nod the response to her losing Album of the Year was crazy. Jay Z is definitely pushing her popularity... ironically enough, if you look at her singles placing since 2010, she's placed just one top ten hit in the last five years... singles positions don't matter tbh, but it comes into effect when someone is constantly being hailed as some sort of 'above-all' goddess (and yes, I've seen articles referring to her as 'the most successful' female artist of the past 5 years)

I personally think they are in on his attics and they sit back and enjoy it. Its quite ridiculous she did not at least come out with a statement out of respect to Beck. It was cruel what Kanye and her fans did to Beck. What did he do to her besides when AOTY over her?

I agree with you. They laughed when Kanye did that but it was completely disrespectful. Imagine if someone would have interrupted her if she would have won the award. Their career would have been over. This is why I can't stand her. Everything about her is overexposed, overhyped and completely contrived. And to think that people are comparing her to Michael Jackson sickens me (literally).

Agreed. They were extremely disrespectful to Beck and took his moment away from him. Gives me another reason why I'm not a fan of any of those clowns.
