Marilyn Manson: The Pale Emperor

So I heard a couple of the songs from this album on the John Wick soundtrack. I didn't immediately place it as being Manson not really being a big fan. Managed to grab a copy of the album. I've heard it a couple of times right through.

"Killing Strangers" is a great industrial crunchy blues number, and "Cupid Carries a Gun" also on the soundtrack is instantly catchy. I doubt there is any coincidence that two of the strongest songs are used in the film.

"Killing Strangers Scene"

"Cupid Carries A Gun"

Having said that "Third Day Of a Seven Day Binge" is another highlight as is "The Mephistophles of Los Angeles" and "The Devil Beneath".

I've never really been a huge fan of Marylin Manson other than a few of the bigger hit singles. I have to say I'm pretty surprised how accessable I found the album. Anyone else heard it?

I'm not really familiar enough with their back catalog but there is a more bluesy feel to this album overall. The signiture ominous tones and vocal pre-verb is still all over the album, but it all feels more open and easier to get into - for me anyway. But I prefer their more "pop" sounding songs to the straight up metal.

I was a fan of their first three albums.. but then he slowly started to lose me. This album doesn't do much for me unfortunately. I think its something about his lyrics that I just don't relate to at all. And I remember the music used to be different and edgy. The combination of an edgy sound with provocative lyrics was what used to draw me in. I dont feel it anymore with his last two-three albums. I got the last album and probably listened to it only twice..

Change it one more time..

I felt the album started off quite strong, "Killing Strangers" is great. But then it descends into mediocrity.

I'm a huge MM fan. Mechanical Animals is my favorite, and I have enjoyed recent albums too, I thought "The High End of Low" was pretty damn good and "Born Villain" was pretty good too - both of which I attribute to him working again with Chris Vrenna who is awesome.

But this album kind of fizzles out quite quickly. There's 3 or 4 good songs on here.
