"Can We Still Be Friends" - Todd Rundgren

Been listening to this song a lot lately because I absolutely love it! There are other Todd Rundgren songs that I like too ("I Saw the Light", "We Gotta Get You a Woman", "Hello It's Me", etc.) that I also like. But "Can We Still Be Friends is my favorite, hands down. Love the melody, the lyrics, everything about it. Funny how I was not really into Todd Rundgren when I was younger. But as I have gotten a bit older, I have discovered what a truly talented songwriter he really is.

We can't play this game anymore, but
Can we still be friends?
Things just can't go on like before, but
Can we still be friends?

We had something to learn
Now it's time for the wheel to turn
Things are said one by one
Before you know it's all gone

Let's admit we made a mistake, but
Can we still be friends?
Heartbreak's never easy to take, but
Can we still be friends?

It's a strange sad affair
Sometimes seems like we just don't care
Don't waste time feeling hurt
We've been through hell together

La la la la, la la la la
Can we still be friends?
Can we still get together sometime?

We awoke from our dream
Things are not always what they seem
Memories linger on
It's like a sweet sad old song

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Welcome aboard.

Todd's made so many good songs that it's ridiculous. Many people have been just been put off by the albums as they contain often so much weirdness. He always has those comedy tracks on his albums at the very least.

One of my favorite TR's tunes. Robert Palmer also did a nice rendition on Secrets.

It was the first thing of his by him that I was aware of (I'd heard the name, I just didn't know any of the music). The first thing I really loved that he was involved in was Bourgeois Tagg's "I Don't Mind At All," which he produced. Then I picked up a copy of Nearly Human out of a dollar bin somewhere, and played that quite a bit (but that was decades ago). In the last couple of years I've started listening to a different Rundgren album every once in a while... but it's hard to try to join a bandwagon long after it's gone by. Especially when it's someone like Rundgren, where there is a substantial range of work. And I get stuck on just one song sometimes, because they're so beautiful.

.

But the listening is always rewarding.

Oh, that's actually been quite popular in sports events. It was also in the movie Antz. Should prove that masses can be into it.
