Janet Jackson performing at the Colosseum in Vegas during her Number Ones tour.

Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 | 4:07 p.m.

There’s a barrage of Wicked Whispers & Racy Rumors to kick off the New Year:

Global-superstar singers Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Janet Jackson and Ricky Martin may all be getting mini-residencies on the Strip early this spring if plans work out.

Reliable sources tell me that the Venetian will be the likely home for the four major entertainers in direct competition of the superstar lineup at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace.

The rumor is that the stars signed on in principle last week for a string of concert productions in the Venetian theater that was created for “Phantom — the Las Vegas Spectacular” and more recently housed Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s“Soul2Soul.”

Oh, Janet.

.

I will never understand why things turned this way for her. She was so, so good. Then comes weight loss commercials, the vegas strip. Come on. She's (is? was?) so much better than this.

I actually don't think this is a bad thing for her. But this probably won't happen in Janet's case. I don't know about the others. But Janet has been approached to do Vegas multiple times. She has turned them down. She doesn't need the money and probably doesn't want the exposure either.

Diana I could see the others not so much. Lionel tours when he wants to, Janet is being a wife and Ricky is raising kids.

A Vegas residency worked out great for Celine when she wanted to perform and also raise a family; wasn't Janet thinking about adopting a child after she got married?

The same amount of money J-Lo wanted is the same amount of money they'll divide between Janet, Diana, Lionel & Ricky....If this "Divas & kings take Vegas" series happens they'll make tons of money....And they can go ahead and steal the series title I just dropped....

Well damn! How much money did JLo want? She ain't half the icon or performer that Diana, Janet, and Lionel are. And apparently the folks in Vegas thought so too.

Of all the pretty pics of Janet they could have used for this article, they chose that one? They have her looking like a chunky naval sailor from the 40's in drag. All that's missing is a forearm tatoo of an anchor, or a naked woman. disbelief

lol She would NEVA. She turned down Idol when they wanted her in a judge's chair. It's a bit too de classe for an artist of her status to do Vegas.

word is that it may be Mariah

E! News has confirmed that the Grammy winner has signed, or is about to sign, a residency deal with a famous resort that will allow her to perform to thousands of fans on a regular basis.

If all goes according to plan, Carey could begin performing her hits, including "We Belong Together," "Hero," "Fantasy," "Always Be My Baby," and more by the end of this year!

Save up your money, superfans. Tickets may go on sale sooner than we think.

Carey joins a long list of famous stars who have secured successful residency gigs in Las Vegas.

Super bowl duh!

The only artist I can think of who was publically barred from radio and the Grammys.

But let’s not get into this for the umpteenth time. lol

I can see Mariah doing Vegas at this stage of her career. Not surprising really. It's more her style of setting anyway. Besides, she can pre-record her best vocals and just lip sync her shows and preserve whatever voice she has left now. Thing is, how well will her show do? Nobody expected Britney to wail like Chaka Khan live for her Vegas act, but Mariah legacy was her voice.

Confirmed! Diana Ross returns to Las Vegas with start of mini-residency

Image

MATT SAYLES / INVISION / AP

Diana Ross presents the Dick Clark Award for Excellence to Taylor Swift at the 42nd Annual American Music Awards at Nokia Theater L.A. Live on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, in Los Angeles.

Monday, Jan. 26, 2015 | 9:14 a.m.

Monday, Jan. 26, 2015 | 9:14 a.m

The Supremes superstar singer Diana Ross has inked April dates for the first nine performances of her new mini-residency contract at the Venetian. Soon to follow in this new entertainment lineup set for the former “Phantom — The Las Vegas Spectacular” theater will be Janet Jackson, Lionel Richie and Ricky Martin, all exactly as we reveale...ted Jan. 5

The decade of the solo-superstar entertainer returning to the Strip is underway.

Diana, named “Most Successful Female Vocalist of All Time,” takes the stage for her new show “The Essential Diana Ross: Some Memories Never Fade” as of April 1, and this ain’t no April Fools Day joke. Tickets go on sale Friday for three weekends of shows April 1, 3-4, 7-8, 10-11, 15 and 17-18.

She will include songs from her remarkable, nearly five-decade career that made music-history milestones and a significant contribution to pop culture music of the 20th century. She’s promising Motown classics “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” to pop favorites “I’m Coming Out” and hits including “Endless Love.”

Diana, named by Billboard as “Female Entertainer of the Century,” amassed with The Supremes an unprecedented 12 No. 1 hits and six No. 1 solo-artist singles. In her career, Diana has 31 Top 10 singles and 14 Top 10 albums selling more than 100 million copies around the world.

AEG Live, who books concerts at the rival Colosseum in Caesars Palace and the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel, will stage her show.

John Nelson, senior VP of AEG Las Vegas, commented: “Las Vegas attracts the biggest names in the world, so it is only fitting that one of the most remarkable entertainers of all time brings her talent to a uniquely intimate stage. This limited engagement will allow audience members an unforgettable experience with a living legend.”

I’m reliably told that Diana, along with Lionel, Janet and Ricky, are looking at dates over the next two years for their continuing mini-residencies.

“The Venetian Las Vegas has established itself as a premier luxury destination, which includes some of the finest entertainment offerings on the Strip,” said John Caparella, president and COO of the Venetian, Palazzo and Sands Expo. “We are looking forward to adding to that reputation when Diana Ross steps onto the stage of the Venetian Theater on April 1.”

This is all part of major Las Vegas hotels using their showrooms to compete with mega-clubs that have become our city’s top financial winners the last two years. It also is the return of the classic solo-headliner entertainer that Las Vegas was so renowned for worldwide in its early years.

Still to start their residencies this summer will be Mariah Carey, Reba McEntire and Brooks & Dunn at Caesars Palace, as we’ve previously reported. Is Jennifer Lopez next? Rocker Rod Stewart resumes his residency Tuesday at Caesars as negotiations heat up for Sir Elton John to extend his contract set to end April 14.

Las Vegas is back with superstar headliners. With Diana’s return, watch for even more solo-headliner stars to be lined up in the weeks to come.

Robin Leach has been a journalist for more than 50 years and has spent the past 15 years giving readers the inside scoop on Las Vegas, the world’s premier platinum playground.

Uhm, yes... why don't you tell that to Mariah Carey, Diana Ross, Prince, Mötley Crüe, Elton John, Kiss, Guns N' Roses, Cher, Celine Dion, Barry Manilow, Britney Spears, Bette Midler, Def Leppard, Boys II Men, Carlos Santana, Meat Loaf, Rod Stewart, Shania Twain, Ozzy Osbourne... and let's not forget Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Junior and more? It's not the worst thing to play in Las Vegas. Get with the program.

Jeez. Has it come to THIS? Talk about a career ouch. Not so much for Diana and Luther because they're legendary, decades past the pop star phase of their careers and can actually make this work to their benefit... but...for the others, this is frankly embarrassing.

lol For someone who isn't a Janet fan you DO seem to make it a point to dot her threads with your personal opinions. Seems sorta counter-productive to me, but then again you've ALWAYS been transparent.

Anyway, until we actually hear it "from her lips" as she said several months ago, I will take whatever "news" we hear concerning her upcoming ventures with a grain of salt. Whatever the case, Janet's legacy and "legendary" status is more than cemented, and you know it. And frankly, your little attempt at shade is the only embarrassing thing in here.

Lol!I pay that font no mind. Janet is already a legend just as Diana is. And I look forward to seeing her if this is true. She's actually the only one who I would spent money to go see anyway.

Diana is the only one to confirm this. Diana would NEVER sign a deal, sharing a residency with another female. Janet this is not her at all. I don't believe it. I hope it's not true. neutral

WICKED WHISPER & RACY RUMOR: Is the Janet Jackson mini-residency hoped for at the Venetian, following in the high heels of Diana Ross confirmed this week, being moved to Axis at Planet Hollywood for when Britney Spears and her show “Piece of Me” is on break?

I’m hearing the first signal of the change in plans, but it’s still big news that Janet is coming to the Strip, as I first revealed. Maybe 11 shows to start to promote her new album

Janet Jackson Could Be The Next Legendary Diva With A Las Vegas Residency

Spare a thought for Janet Jackson fans. Seven years have already passed since her last studio LP, 2008′s underrated Discipline, and the legendary diva recently shut down rumors that she was embarking on a comeback. Instead, the pop pioneer is devoting her time to charitable causes and married life with billionaire husband Wissam Al Mana. There could, however, be some light at the end of the tunnel. The Las Vegas Sun claims Damita Jo has signed on for a mini-residency in Sin City.

According to the publication, Janet will perform at the Venetian in early spring as part of a line-up that includes fellow icons Diana Ross (she has already confirmed this) and Lionel Ritchie. There’s no other evidence to support the claim, but it’s a tantalizing prospect. The 48-year-old is still an incredible performer and a stint in Las Vegas might be the motiviation she needs to start recording again. Keep your fingers crossed and Design Of A Decade spinning on repeat.

Sorry. But that is bullshit. Her engagement won't last forever. It will either end at one point or she will have breaks. So obviously someone will follow her residency or play when she's having a break. No investor would agree to not make money while she is resting or after she's done. There is nothing she can or will do about someone else playing. If she couldn't live with that, she wouldn't do a residency.

As for Janet doing it. Time will tell. It's not impossible.

Diana Ross AMAs*Diana Ross is back!

The boss signed a deal to do a min-residency at “Phantom — The Las Vegas Spectacular” theater in Las Vegas, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

Her first nine performances will be in April. “The Essential Diana Ross: Some Memories Never Fade” will kick off on April 1. Tickets are on sale for three weekends of shows April 1, 3-4, 7-8, 10-11, 15 and 17-18.

Ross, who has six solo number one pop hits and 12 number one pop hits with The Supremes, is not the only pop icon doing a mini-residency.
